Game Over: Kasparov And The Machine Coming To DVD

I noticed this movie was playing in Toronto recently and it caught my eye because it sounded pretty interesting. Now I’m not really a big chess buff but the whole controversy and issues surrounding the matches between Gary Kasparov and IBM’s Deep Blue computer are definitely worthy of their own documentary. “Game Over: Kasparov And The Machine” will hit DVD on May 31st through Velocity Home Entertainment and Think Film. The movie was directed by Vikram Jayanti, who has an interesting filmography of other documentaries behind him including The Christmas Truce, Feast of Death, and I Am A Sex Addict. Chixdiggit Return With A New Album

After what was essentially a 4 year hiatus, those happy go-lucky rockers from Calgary, Chixdiggit, will return with a new album next month. What prompted this return to action one can only speculate, but they obviously felt it was time to throw together another 15 minutes worth of music and hit the road! Entitled “Pink Razors”, the new record will be out on Fat Wreck Chords on April 19th… and, umm… the cover is pink. Some tour dates have been posted on their website in both Canada and Europe, and among them is a show on April 28th in Toronto with SNFU. There are no sample MP3s up at the Fat Wreck website yet, but then again with albums as short as theirs, I guess you don’t really want to give away anything for free.

Project Greenlight Season Premiere Streaming Online

AOL has teamed up with Bravo to present the first episode of Ben Stiller and Matt Damon’s reality show Project Greenlight online. The first episode of season 3 premiered last night on Bravo and it can now be streamed via AOL’s TV website. If you haven’t seen Project Greenlight before, what they do is pick a script and a director from thousands of independent submissions and then give them money to make their movie. The reality series then documents the entire production of it. The first two seasons were cool but the winning movies were somewhat dull and not very successful. This time around they are working with Dimension Films and Wes Craven to make a genre film (read: horror film) which should be a little more interesting. For more info, check out the Project Greenlight official site at www.projectgreenlight.com. (Don’t visit the site if you don’t want to know what movie was picked before you watch the first episode.)

New Bloc Party Video For “Banquet” Online

With the North American release of their first full-length album “Silent Alarm” quickly approaching (next week actually), a new video for Bloc Party’s song “Banquet” has appeared online. They previously had a lower budget black and white video for the same song, I guess this new version is what happens when a major label ponies up some cash for an update. The directors, Alex & Liane, are the same ones who directed the original Banquet video, as well as a Scissor Sisters video for the song “Laura”. Strangely, a quick look at Mvdbase.com shows a 3rd Banquet video by Scott Lyon currently in post-production. I’m not sure what that’s all about. So what do people think? Is this song going to be huge once MTV gets a hold of it? I think so. Click the link below to watch the video, and a bunch of others directed by Alex and Liane as well including Bloc Party’s “So Here We Are”.

Star Trek and Rome Themed MMORPGs On The Way

More MMORPGs? I am shocked that publishers keep dishing out money for these massive online games considering the risk involved. They are not easy games to do right and they require a tremendous amount of manpower. Perpetual Entertainment, Inc. recently announced their plans to develop and publish not one but two of these games at the same time. The first is called “Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising”, and it will be set in Rome around 300 BC with players creating Roman heroes who will carry out quests to further the glory of Rome. The game promises large scale squad combat, and will incorporate both historical fact with Roman mythology. The game will launch this fall, for more info check out www.godsandheroes.com. The second game in the works from Perpetual Entertainment will be a Star Trek-themed MMORPG called simply “Star Trek Online”. Gamespot currently has a first look at the game, which will feature a story that takes place after the events of the last Star Trek movie, Nemesis. Players can choose from 7 different races and a number of departmental specialties. The game will feature bridge missions, away missions, as well as holodeck-created content. WB To Produce Looney Tunes Update “Loonatics”

This has got to be a joke, right? Warner Brothers have recently announced a new animated series entitled “Loonatics” that is intended to bring the classic Looney Tunes characters into the 21st century. The show sees Bugs Bunny, Taz, Daffy Duck, Wile E. Coyote and others transformed into superheroes in the year 2772. With new names like “Roadster”, “Spaz” and “Buzz Bunny”, it all seems just a little bit ridiculous. I guess they think kids nowadays can’t identify with characters that don’t use computers or have a techno soundtrack accomanying them everywhere. But here’s one amusing thing that the WB didn’t plan on: if kids Google the name “Buzz Bunny” they are likely to be directed towards websites selling a sex toy of the same name. Parents are going to love it. Loonatics is scheduled to begin airing on the Kids WB this fall. Click below to see a pretty funny trailer for this abomination.
