Cantankerous Episode #13: Dummy Wallet

It looks like we've set a new record! It's been almost EIGHT MONTHS since our last episode of Cantankerous (well, technically there's a lost episode in there somewhere) and boy are we back with a bang! In this episode (number 13 for those keeping track), Reed shares his regrets in not pursuing a career in the arts, his slow descent into reclusion, and his reasoning for carrying a 'dummy wallet' when walking the streets of Thorold, Ontario at night. Reed also plays the role of raconteur, attempting to improvise a story on the spot in a desperate attempt to prove his inability to spin an engaging yarn. Thankfully, he totally redeems himself by sharing some lurid details surrounding a recent correspondence with a female pen pal, leading to a debate as to whether or not including the word 'hello' in an email subject line will make it through the spam filter. Finally, we open the show up to your Twitter questions, resulting in a half hour confrontation as Reed attempts to explain why he chose not to travel to the Big Apple to attend the world premiere of Jay's first feature documentary (and visit with some of his Film Junk fans). It's a cathartic, honest discussion that will leave you feeling like you're listening in on something you shouldn't be. Cantankerous Episode #11: My Rifle, My Pony and Me

The sun is sinkin' in the West, which means it's time for episode 11 of Cantankerous! This episode Reed completely massacres one of the greatest on-screen musical numbers in film history (along with some help from Jay) and we finally get to hear Mr.Farrington's thoughts on Christopher Nolan's Inception. This results in an occasionally heated discussion in which Jay and Sean attempt to understand and accept Reed's criticism that the film lacks any new real-world scientific discoveries in the field of dream research and technology. Then we get in to some dream discussion and eventually end up discussing whether or not Twitter actually draws us closer to celebrities. Thank us later, it's the new Cantankerous! Cantankerous Episode #10: The Second Annual Holiday Episode

So this one is a little late. Normally I would fall back on the 'better late than never' excuse but this could turn out to be one of the few instances where never may actually have been better. Either way, you asked for it! Welcome to the second annual Cantankerous holiday episode! This year myself and Reed attempted to document one of our shopping trips 'over the river' (in the United States) as we looked for the perfect X-Mas gifts for ourselves. (Star Trek Snuggie, Batman 1/18 scale die cast replica Bat Bike) Unfortunately some technical difficulties (and lack of interesting discussion) left us with very little material to work with, resulting in our shopping excursion being chopped down to a few clips. On top of that, we all sat down in our traditional podcast setting to discuss the joys of being jobless, consider the comfort of medieval knight helmets and watch as he Reed tries to hit on interactive website. Cantankerous Episode #9: Watermelon Popsicles

Thankfully, I've had this episode of Cantankerous on hold for a while now, in case of emergencies and such. With Sean in Japan and no Film Junk podcast for this week, I thought it might be a good idea to break the glass and pull the Reed Alarm (a sound so obnoxious it will drive even the most jaded businessmen fleeing out of an office building, fire or not). This week Reed talks about his watermelon popsicles, Beatles rock band, a clogged urethra and the death of MJ, among other things. It's time to sit back, remove your pants and light your face on fire. Cantankerous, Episode #9, is here to stay. Cantankerous Episode #8: Obsessive Compulsive Frugality

Cantankerous is an irregular podcast where Jay and Reed Farrington get together to bicker and pick each other's brains about such random topics as philosophy, science, and Reed's obsessive collecting. It's that time again! What a wonderful treat! Cantankerous #8! I just checked the archives to find out when our first show was recorded: December 2007. We've done 8 episodes -- INCLUDING the video special -- in almost a year and a half! That's gotta be some sort of record for the least prolific podcast on the internet. Anyways, it's time to get down to business. Cantankerous Episode #7: Reed’s House – A Video Tour

It's been a long time coming, but you guys are in for a real treat. Last weekend myself, Sean and our good friend Roman paid Reed Farrington a visit to the Shatcave (a.k.a. Reed's House). We brought some gear and decided to lay down a very special VIDEO edition of Cantankerous, giving you all what you so badly need: a tour of Reed's House. What ensued was an intimate look into the soul of a man whose on-camera downward spiral into the realm of insanity left us questioning both his motives and our own universal relevance. Initially, Reed came across as an endearing and gracious host, but gradually his charms receded, letting his dark side seep through. Hoarding stuffed creatures for his own amusement. Single-handedly destroying entire colonies of lower life forms, simply to prolong the existence of his precious First Contact chocolate bars. A self-admitted psychopath and megalomaniac, 'Reed's House' provides a candid and disturbing portrait of one of the 20th century's most notorious (action) figures. Enjoy! Like what you see? It kind of ended up being about Reed's current hermit-like existence and his claim that he is "living below the poverty line"... or something like that. Film Junk Presents…Cantankerous – Episode 3

Finally, it's here. It's all about supply and demand baby. Thus, we bring you the third episode of Cantankerous...in half a year. That's right, supply and demand. This episode Sean sits in and talks garbage with myself and Reed for just over an hour. We touch on Reed's shopping and eating habits, why white actors play white people and black actors play black people, existence and a fear of dying, and Reed details his frustration with the Dawson's Creek DVD boxed sets and the obsessive compulsive trouble he's gone through to work around the issue of inconsistent theme songs. Oh, and we touch on his journey to back up the internet on CD-R. If that isn't enough, we've also included a special video companion piece to this episode. It turns out Reed is quite the cook, and about twenty years ago he decided to capture the magic on tape. Check out an edited version of 'Cooking With Gerry' below.
