Thor will be the next Marvel comic book movie to head into production, with shooting expected to commence sometime in mid-January. The Kenneth Branagh-directed action fantasy flick is shaping up to be a little different from your average superhero adaptation, and already boasts an impressive cast that includes Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgard, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, and of course, Samuel L. Jackson briefly reprising his role as Nick Fury. Now this week three more actors have been added to the roster.

According to Variety [1], Stuart Townsend (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Queen of the Damned), Ray Stevenson (Rome, Punisher: War Zone) and Tadanobu Asano (Mongol) have signed on to play Thor's Warriors Three, a group of "Asgardian adventurers who fight alongside the Norse god". Their names: Fandral, Volstagg the Valiant, and Hogun the Grim, respectively. Just based on the names alone I'm excited! I have to admit, this movie is shaping up to be a lot of fun. What do you think about how the cast is coming together? Thor is currently slated for release on May 20th, 2011.

Well if there's one thing they want us to know about Louis Leterrier's upcoming remake of the 1981 epic Clash of the Titans, it's that it's hip and cool and edgy! Since this is just a teaser trailer, they can get away with showing quick clips of action scenes and melding it together into a music video of sorts. It works fairly well, and I'm sure this is going to excite fans of 300, which is clearly their target audience. Still, I have to wonder, is this music indicative of what the actual soundtrack will be? Because if so, that's pretty lame.

The movie stars Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Gemma Arterton, Ralph Fiennes, and of course, Pete Postlethwaite (among others). It looks like this will be sufficiently epic and the special effects certainly give a much-needed update to the original, but is it just me or do some of the creature designs seem like a rip off of Pan's Labyrinth? Clash of the Titans hits theatres on March 26th; check out the teaser trailer after the jump.

After a low quality version of the trailer found its way onto YouTube earlier today, IGN [1] has wisely decided to unveil the official trailer for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time a few hours early. I have to admit, I've been pretty curious to see what Jerry Bruckheimer and Mike Newell could do with this video game franchise on the big screen. All the right elements are here for an epic action/fantasy film, but will it just turn out to be another terrible game-to-movie travesty?

One thing I can say after watching this trailer is that it looks very... expensive. I mean, the amount of special effects on screen here are ridiculous, at times almost on par with that 5-minute clip [2] from Roland Emmerich's 2012. Although I like what I see of the costumes and scenery, I'm not too sure about a lot of the weird CG effects. But hey, it's cool because Jake Gyllenhaal is running up walls! It's hard to say if there's actually a decent story underneath all this, but the sad thing is it looks like it could easily be a massive mess on par with Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. At least they could have waited for part 2 or 3 to unveil this much craziness! What do you think? Prince of Persia hits theatres on May 28th, 2010; the trailer is embedded after the jump.

I've been seeing posters around for the upcoming Dreamworks animated 3-D film How to Train Your Dragon for a couple of months now, and I haven't once been inspired to seek out any additional information about it. I hadn't even watched the first teaser trailer that surfaced online back in September, but now that a longer trailer has arrived over at Yahoo! [1], I figured I might as well give it a shot.

Directed by Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders (Lilo & Stitch), the movie is about a young Viking named Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, who sets off to slay a dragon, and ends up befriending one instead. One thing that is kind of interesting is the fact that Jay Baruchel is voicing the main character and his dry, non-typical delivery seems to hold some promise. Other voices include Gerard Butler, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Craig Ferguson, Kristen Wiig, and America Ferrera. Aside from that though, I think I'd much rather see a live action movie like Dragonheart or even Eragon over this. Baby dragons are lame. I want old and grumpy ones that sound like Sean Connery. How to Train Your Dragon hits theatres on March 26th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

One of the things that is supposed to legitimize the creation of The Hobbit as films to the fanatical fans of The Lord of The Rings, is binding the stories together through a lot of the same actors from LoTR. The producers are trying to achieve this in whatever way they possibly can, where the decision is plausible and makes sense, one of which is bringing back John Rhys-Davies to play Gloin the dwarf, the father of his character Gimli from LoTR. But no dice, Rhys-Davies isn't interested in returning to play his own father, nor any other dwarf for that matter -- or so he tells Empire.

"I've already been asked [to return] and to be honest with you, I wouldn't. I have already completely ruled it out. There's a sentimental part of me that would love to be involved again. Really I am not sure my face can take that sort of punishment any more. Why would you want to do it if it was just a couple of shots? When you've been 1 of 1, why would you want to be 1 of 13?"

Good choice, I say. However, this isn't the be all end all of Rhys-Davies appearing in the movies (though I certainly hope so), as he ends the interview mentioning that he would like to return... as an elf. Hopefully that doesn't come to fruition though, I don't really like people pulling double roles. He is Gimli, that's it, he can't be Gloin or an elf or anything else for that matter within that universe. This sort of thing is only A-okay if it's Van Damme, Sandler or Murphy pulling double-duty playing their own twins or the like. I mean, who doesn't love The Nutty Professor or Double Impact???

I mean, who doesn't love <em>The Nutty Professor</em> or <em>Double Impact</em>???
FOR MORE DAILY MOVIE GOODNESS, VISIT FILMJUNK.COM!

Oh yes, that's right... it's time to Slam Evil all over again. The Phantom is back baby! If you thought the 1996 movie starring Billy Zane was amazing, just wait until you see SyFy's new re-imagining of the masked superhero. Written by Carnivale creator Daniel Knauf and his son Charles, this new version of The Phantom is a two-part made-for-TV mini-series starring Ryan Carnes (Desperate Housewives, General Hospital) as the 21st Phantom.

This isn't your father's Phantom, however. Chris Moore is a law student and parkour runner who learns that he was adopted. After his parents are murdered, he must don the famous Skull Ring and train in the jungles of Bengalla so that he can take on the evil Singh Brotherhood. Oh, and in case you haven't guessed, The Phantom costume has been heavily re-imagined as well. Sandrine Holt, Jean Marchand, and Isabella Rossellini also star in what is sure to be a must-see television event!! The Phantom will air on SyFy in the U.S. and The Movie Network in Canada sometime in 2010. Check out the trailer after the jump.

I don't know about you, but I love Nicolas Cage. Yes, yes, he may have done a few stinkers, but who hasn't? Jason Bateman did Teen Wolf Too and I don't see anyone hating on him! So why all the hate for the Cagemeister? Is he over the top? YES! He is wonderfully over the top, and I am loving it! He is one of the few actors, that I think does over the top well, yet the hate he gets for it is substantial.

Anyway, for the haters of The Cage, the new teaser trailer for his upcoming feature Season of the Witch, will probably make them shit themselves in joy, as they'll have a new film to bitch and moan about. For the rest of us, we get a taste of a new Cage-flick that actually looks like it could be alright, though it's still to early to know for certain. The movie also stars Ron Perlman, which is another big plus. Check out the teaser and judge for yourself, after the break.

It's time to pray and kick ass - biblical style.

That's right, The Bible is totally selling out. First Jesus went all Hollywood, combining forces with Mel Gibson to make The Passion of The Christ and now Moses is trying to one-up him with his newest project: His life, 300-style. That's right, Moses is going full-out action. Fox has bought a pitch for a script about the life of Moses, starting with him almost dying as a baby, continuing on with his adoption into the Egyptian royal family followed by him totally dissing the Pharoah and finally the face off and freedom of the Hebrews. You know, same old... But wait!

It's not just the same old thing, with the plagues on Egypt and parting of the Red Sea and what not, there's more. The script will also take pointers from various scriptures and other historical documents made about Moses which wasn't in The Bible. So the story will be the one we know, but not. All will be done 300-/Sin City-style, with the movie shooting green screen and having that same feel as well.

The script will be penned by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage, who has recently turned in their draft of the re-invention of the Moby Dick tale (the flick which is supposed to be directed by Wanted-director Timur Bekmambetov). Cooper and Collage have also previously written the comedy Accepted. All in all, I think this sounds kind of weird, but it has the potential of either being totally awesome or a complete failure. What do you think? Does the story of Moses need another retelling? Shout off in the comments below.

The good folks over at Empire [1] managed to score some new stills last week from the upcoming remake of Clash of the Titans, which is being directed by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk, Transporter 2). As you can see in the pictures, they're really going all out with the costume design courtesy of Lindy Hemming (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, The Dark Knight, Casino Royale).

Most of the pics feature Sam Worthington as Perseus, but we've also got our first look at Liam Neeson as Zeus thanks to an on-set snapshot from Entertainment Weekly [2]. Now that's what I call armor! What do you say, is this shaping up to be the epic blockbuster that you were expecting? Clash of the Titans hits theatres on March 26th, 2010.

Johnny Depp might not be in the mood [1] for piratey shenanigans at the moment, but Geoffrey Rush is ready and waiting. The man behind Captain Barbossa has confirmed to MTV News [2] that he will appear in On Stranger Tides, the fourth film in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Rush has also given MTV word on when the movie will most likely go into production, that being spring of 2010, as he has been told to keep his schedule open for that period. That's earlier than I would have thought, but then again the Pirate movies have always been speed developed.

Rush also talked a bit about the movie in general and how the writers were working on making the movie different from the first trilogy, making it something that can be seen as a standalone film that isn't connected to the storyline of the other films and won't just repeat the first three in how the plot plays out either. It needs to be a movie that can be seen without having seen any of the others basically, a fresh start for the franchise. What do you think, do you agree that this should be something totally new within the same universe, or would you prefer to see what worked well in the first three films applied to a new adventure that continues the storyline?

A few days ago Walt Disney Studios chairman Dick Cook announced that after 38 years of working at the house of mouse he was stepping down. Now why would anybody care about some studio guy stepping down? Well, in this case his departure actually matters and you should care. That is, at least, if you are a fan of Pirates of the Caribbean and would like to see the franchise continue, because it was Cook who first brought Johnny Depp, the star of the franchise, aboard, and now that Cook is gone, Depp is having doubts about whether or not to continue with the project or even stay with Disney at all.

When the LA Times [1] asked Depp about Cook's sudden departure, he revealed that he was both "shocked and very sad" to hear that Cook was leaving Disney, and that Cook had actually told it to him over the phone a few hours before announcing it to the public. The whole thing had made a crack in his enthusiasm for the fourth Pirates film, as all his involvement in the franchise started in Cook's office, whom he refers to as the sweetest man on the planet.

This doesn't look good for the fourth pirate film, since if Depp were to drop out, there wouldn't really be anything to make the movie about. Depp and his alter ego Jack Sparrow are the core of the franchise and without him both the entertainment value and the audience would drop in large amounts. One also has to wonder why Cook would suddenly leave Disney. Perhaps problems regarding the acquisition of Marvel? With them now owning Marvel they might want to slow down their own production of films and just reap the Marvel franchises and collect licensing fees from all the other major studios. But who knows, it could be a lot of things and whatever it is Johnny Depp isn't happy about it!

A few days ago Walt Disney Studios chairman Dick Cook announced that after 38 years of working at the house of mouse he was stepping down. Now why would anybody care about some studio guy stepping down? Well, in this case his departure actually matters and you should care. That is, at least, if you are a fan of <em>Pirates of the Caribbean</em> and would like to see the franchise continue, because it was Cook who first brought Johnny Depp, the star of the franchise, aboard, and now that Cook is gone, Depp is having doubts about whether or not to continue with the project or even stay with Disney at all.

When the <a href="http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/disney/" target="_blank">LA Times</a> asked Depp about Cook's sudden departure, he revealed that he was both "shocked and very sad" to hear that Cook was leaving Disney, and that Cook had actually told it to him over the phone a few hours before announcing it to the public.

FOR MORE DAILY MOVIE GOODNESS, VISIT FILMJUNK.COM!
