For anybody who's sick of hearing about Beauty Day around here, don't worry...it's almost over! The life cycle of the film has now entered the 'home video' stage, which means it's just about dead (or depending on your perspective, about to be 'reborn'?). So for all of you who haven't had a chance to see it yet (which is a lot of you), here's an opportunity to own your very own copy on glorious DVD! (Note: at this point there are no blu ray plans. Sorry.) As an avid DVD/Blu Ray collector, I must say that I'm pretty proud of this release as it's absolutely STACKED with lots of great bonus features, including an audio commentary track featuring a couple Film Junk regulars. On top of that, we've got a bunch of deleted scenes that are actually good enough to have been included in the film, AND some original Cap'n Video Show clips! Check out the list of over 100 minutes of bonus features:

- Feature length audio commentary with director Jay Cheel, Ralph Zavadil, and Robert Buick
- Feature length audio commentary with director Jay Cheel, Sean Dwyer (Film Junk.com), Reed Farrington, Frank Knezic, and Kurt Halfyard (Twitch.net, Row Three.com)
- Deleted Scenes
- Cap'n Video's 20th Birthday Special
- Original Cap'n Video Show Clips
- Interview Clip

Yup, all of this great stuff for a only $15 (USD) plus shipping. (Note: due to limited shipping options through Canadian Paypal, I've had to increase the price of the DVD for international buyers to $17 to adjust for additional delivery costs. And yes, this disc is region free.). Just click the button below, choose your destination, and soon you'll be having yourself a BEEAUUTTYYY DAYYYYYYYY!

Alright, folks... the votes have been cast and the results have been tallied. It's time to find out what you guys thought were the best movies of 2011! We nominated five movies in a number of different categories (while attempting to keep each category relatively balanced) and then we turned it over to you. We ended up with a few tight battles (ie. Best Action Movie, Best Foreign Film) and a few other categories that weren't even close (Best Animated Film, Best Thriller). Either way, it's always fun to find out just how in sync we are with the tastes of our readers. So without any further ado, check out the full results of the 2011 Film Junk Readers Choice Awards after the jump.

It's that time of year again, folks! As the Best of 2011 lists start rolling out, we wanted to make sure we include you guys in the discussion as well. I think this is the sixth year that we have done the Film Junk Reader's Choice Awards, and just in case you're unfamiliar, the idea is that we pick five nominees in a number of different genres or categories and then open it up for voting throughout the month of December. Then sometime after Christmas, we unveil the winners!

As with every year, there are a handful of movies that could easily fit in a number of different categories. We usually try to organize it so that there are no clear cut winners just to keep things interesting. Also, in order to qualify, a movie needs to have received some sort of theatrical release in North America in 2011, and we generally try to keep it to movies that a majority of readers would have had a chance to see.

Hey guys, I just wanted to post a quick reminder for anyone living in Canada that Jay's documentary Beauty Day will be premiering in HD on HBO Canada tonight at 10 pm. If you can't catch it tonight, it will be available via The Movie Network On Demand starting tomorrow, and it will also be re-airing at various times throughout the next few weeks. It will also be playing at the Dark Bridges Film Festival in Saskatoon on October 1st with Cap'n Video himself in attendance.

I know there are a lot of people outside of Canada who still haven't had a chance to see it, and hopefully we will be able to get it into your eyeballs soon. The DVD and Blu-ray are in the works as we speak, and the movie will also be playing at the Zurich Film Festival in Switzerland this coming weekend (Jay will be at most of the screenings). In the meantime, spread the word to your Canadian friends and tell them to set their PVRs tonight. Check out the full airing schedule for Beauty Day, and for more info visit the film's official site.
FOR MORE DAILY MOVIE GOODNESS, VISIT FILMJUNK.COM!

Greetings all, I’m Shannon Hood, and I will be joining the writing team here at Film Junk. I’m a gal, so I guess that will make me the resident Junkette. I’ve been writing film reviews for over two years, and I run a pop culture website called Frothygirlz. I’m a whore for horror films, a rabid film enthusiast, and occasional radio show and podcast co-host. I’ve covered multiple film festivals and interviews, and I freelance for several print and online outlets.

After admiring the guys here at Film Junk from afar for some time now, I am thrilled to finally work with them. My film tastes run from conventional to eclectic, but I am partial to indie film, South Korean cinema (I Saw the Devil was one of my favorite films last year), and grisly fare. Greg and I have discovered that we have alarmingly close taste in films, barring horror. My top five films of 2010 were Black Swan, True Grit, The Social Network, 127 Hours, and The Kids Are All Right.

I'll be contributing film reviews, occasional interviews, and whatever else might pop up. For the curious, skeptical, or already annoyed, you can access a full archive of my film reviews here.

My Favorite Film Junk Podcast Moments:

Jay’s Colon drama

Greg watching the wrong movie

When Jay’s grandma was awarded her driver’s license, but Jay was not

The screening is at 6:45 pm at the Isabel Bader Theatre on Charles Street West and tickets are still available, but even if you don't attend the screening you are more than welcome to drop in.

Here are the deets:

Date: Fri. April 29th, 2011
Time: 9:30 pm - ???
Location: The Duke of York Pub, 39 Prince Arthur Avenue, Toronto

The pub is about a 10 minute walk from the theatre, and we'll be heading there after the Q&A. Everyone should be there except for Jay, who may show up later in the night. Any other questions? Although we weren't able to record a new episode of the Film Junk Podcast this week, the good news is we do have a little something to tide you over until next Monday. Recently we guested on an episode of The Podcast Podcast, a cool podcast that interviews the personalities behind some of their favourite podcasts. (Very meta.) They were kind enough to invite us on the show, and I thought it might be an interesting way for listeners to get to know us a little better.

Now keep in mind, this was recorded a couple weeks ago, so the Oscar discussion is a bit dated by now. However, the real reason to tune in is to hear us match wits in Fozziebare's World Famous Lightning Round. Were we up to the challenge or did we fail miserably? You'll have to download to find out! You can listen to the episode here, or subscribe in iTunes.
FOR MORE DAILY MOVIE GOODNESS, VISIT FILMJUNK.COM!

Hey guys, as you may know, some of us are in New York City this weekend for the premiere of Jay's first feature-length documentary Beauty Day. Just thought I'd put a quick reminder out there for anyone in the New York City area. It is playing at the Museum of Modern Art as part of their Canadian Front program starting today and there are two screenings:

Sunday, March 20, 2011 @ 5:30 p.m., Theater 1

Monday, March 21, 2011 @ 4:00 p.m., Theater 3

Jay will be there for a Q&A after both screenings. We hope some of you can make it, but if you don't live nearby, there will be more screenings announced soon. Beauty Day has also been confirmed for the Philadelphia Cinefest and Canadian dates should be announced in a couple of days.

For more info, check out this great write-up from the Toronto Star (which has some mild spoilers), or watch the trailer after the jump.

If you want to participate in the chat room you'll have to click over to Film Junk's Ustream channel, however. As always, we will leave the chat room open after the show to continue the discussion as we all watch the Oscars together. See you all later tonight!
FOR MORE DAILY MOVIE GOODNESS, VISIT FILMJUNK.COM!

As I'm sure you're all aware, the 83rd Annual Academy Awards will take place this Sunday, February 27th. The actual show starts at 8 pm EST, but instead of watching all that boring red carpet crap beforehand, why not tune in to Film Junk's live pre-Oscar podcast instead? We'll be broadcasting live on Ustream starting at 6 pm EST right up until 8:00, and then we'll leave the chat room open and continue to talk shit as we watch the show with all of you.

For the most part, it will be our standard weekly podcast format, but we'll be looking back at the Best Picture winners from the past 10 years and re-evaluating whether or not the Academy got it right. We'll also be offering our uneducated predictions for this year, and as always, we'll also be reviewing something... probably Hall Pass. This is actually the fifth year we've been doing a live pre-Oscar podcast, but don't let that fool you. It will still be just as unprofessional and disorganized as it always is! I'll post another reminder on Sunday, but we hope to see you all there!
FOR MORE DAILY MOVIE GOODNESS, VISIT FILMJUNK.COM!

A new episode of The Movie Club Podcast should be coming before the end of the month, but in the meantime, here's a little something extra to tide you over. The guys from Sound on Sight were kind enough to invite us to join them on their own podcast for a little discussion about David Cronenberg. Specifically, we decided to talk about two of his most well-known '80s movies: Videodrome and The Fly. How could we say no?

Sound on Sight is based in Montreal, so clearly it was only fitting that we discuss a Canadian filmmaker, and we are all Cronenberg fans (as it turns out, their show was previously called "The Naked Lunch"). In addition to putting out two podcasts a week, they also have an on-going series called Sordid Cinema, where they look at more extreme and obscure genre films. Definitely worth checking out! The podcast only runs about an hour long, which is a nice change of pace for us. You can download the entire show with our guest appearance via the link below.
FOR MORE DAILY MOVIE GOODNESS, VISIT FILMJUNK.COM!

Some of us might see more movies on a regular basis than others, but let's face it, when the end of the year rolls around, everyone enjoys weighing in with "best of" lists -- which is precisely why we started doing the Film Junk Readers Choice Awards five years ago.
