With Valentine's Day less than a week away, some moviegoers are no doubt in search of the perfect date movie. While in the past this has usually meant something that falls in the romantic comedy category, over the last few years studios have been starting to realize that you can mash action and romance together in order to create massive box office hits that appeal to both men and women. This week's poll is in search of a movie that strikes the ultimate balance between the two sides. While some of the options probably qualify as more action / adventure than straight up action, I'll leave it to you to determine what makes for a better movie. Which romantic action movie is your favourite? Which ones did we forget? Cast your vote in this week's poll and then discuss further in the comments below.

I suspect more than a few readers may disagree with the winner of last week's poll, but what can I say... the Film Junkies have spoken! Sean Penn's Into the Wild was voted the Best Wilderness Survival Thriller, and while many of us would agree that it's a great film, it does fail two out of the three main criteria for this category (those being "survival" and "thriller"). I suppose it's my own fault for including it in the poll, but both Deliverance and Cast Away ended up being very close to winning as well. The Edge and 127 Hours tied for fourth place followed by Touching the Void. Way down at the bottom of the list, Adam Green's Frozen received just 1.3% of the votes. Do you agree with these results?

1. Into the Wild -- 17.8%
2. Deliverance -- 17.1%
3. Cast Away -- 16.4%
4. The Edge -- 12.8%
4. 127 Hours -- 12.8%
6. Touching the Void -- 10.2%
7. Alive -- 6.9%
8. The Perfect Storm -- 2.3%
8. Open Water -- 2.3%
10. Frozen -- 1.3%
FOR MORE DAILY MOVIE GOODNESS, VISIT FILMJUNK.COM!

With Joe Carnahan's The Grey hitting theatres this weekend, it's time to reflect on the return of a genre that we don't see in theatres often enough: the wilderness survival thriller. I'm not sure that there is a common consensus on what exactly constitutes a survival thriller, but usually it is a movie where the main characters are battling nature in some way (although they could also be battling each other as well). Often they are based on true stories, but this doesn't always have to be the case. There is also the question of whether or not the characters actually have to survive in order to qualify (personally, I would say no). With that in mind, I put together a poll with some noteworthy movies that could potentially be considered survival thrillers, although I'm sure I missed more than a few. Which one is your favourite? Cast your vote in this week's poll and then sound off in the comments below!

It could be one of the closest yet at the same time most lopsided polls ever conducted on Film Junk. Last week we asked you what the best action movie with a female protagonist was, and although it came right down to the wire, Kill Bill, Vol. 1 managed to just barely hang on to its lead over Aliens. To be honest, I thought Aliens was going to wipe the floor quite easily, but I guess you shouldn't underestimate the power of Quentin Tarantino. Unfortunately almost every other option was completely ignored, which isn't a huge surprise, but I certainly thought La Femme Nikita and Chocolate would get a few more votes. As many people had mentioned, the addition of Hanna could have potentially made the poll a little more interesting as well, but I kinda forgot about that one... oops. I also wonder if Lara Croft: Tomb Raider would have received more votes than Salt. Do you agree with these results?

1. Kill Bill, Vol. 1 -- 41.7%
2. Aliens -- 41.3%
3. La Femme Nikita -- 4%
4. Underworld -- 2.8%
5. Chocolate -- 2.4%
6. Resident Evil -- 2.2%
7. Sucker Punch -- 1.8%
7. Salt -- 1.8%
7. Coffy -- 1.8%
10. Charlie's Angels -- 0.4%
FOR MORE DAILY MOVIE GOODNESS, VISIT FILMJUNK.COM!

With both Haywire and Underworld Awakening hitting theatres this weekend, it seems like an appropriate time to discuss some of the best action movies that have been led by females. Although we've been seeing more women kicking ass on the big screen in recent years, the fact is, a lot of them are still overshadowed by their male co-stars. That's why this poll only focuses on movies where the primary star is a woman (ie. Terminator 2 does not count). Also, just to make things a little more fair, you can probably consider a vote for Resident Evil or Underworld to be a vote for the entire franchise. So what is the best female-fronted action movie? Cast your vote in this week's poll and tell us about your other favourites in the comments below.

Most obvious poll winner ever? Yeah, probably. I think we can all agree that The Dark Knight Rises is easily the most anticipated movie of 2012 right across the board (with a staggering 40% of the votes), but I was still curious to see where the rest of the choices would fall in last week's poll. Ridley Scott seems to be Christopher Nolan's closest competition with his pseudo-Alien prequel Prometheus, while The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and Django Unchained were neck in neck for third place. The Avengers rounded out the top 5 with just 3.8% of the votes... quite a huge separation between the top 4 and the rest of the picks. Way down at the bottom of the list was The Expendables 2. I guess Sylvester Stallone and his pals still have a somewhat limited appeal in the grand scheme of things. Do you agree with these results? What other movies should have been on the list?

1. The Dark Knight Rises -- 40.8%
2. Prometheus -- 21.8%
3. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey -- 13.2%
4. Django Unchained -- 13%
5. The Avengers -- 3.8%
6. The Master -- 2.5%
7. Gravity -- 1.6%
8. Looper -- 1.3%
9. World War Z -- 1.1%

At this point I think we've spent enough time reflecting on the past year in film, and it's time to look ahead to what 2012 might have in store for us. Although discussions about the most anticipated movies of the year are usually somewhat predictable, I do think it's important to remind ourselves that there is good stuff on the way since the first few months can be a real slog to get through. Obviously there are a ton of options and we can't cover them all in the poll itself, but I did try to balance the blockbusters with a few smaller films as well. A large part of this conversation will come from your write-in votes, so don't forget to tell us what else you're looking forward to in 2012. Go ahead and cast your vote in this week's poll and then sound off in the comments below!

Last week we asked Film Junk readers to pick the most overrated movie of 2011, and after an intense back and forth battle it was J.J. Abrams' Super 8 that came out on top with almost 25% of the votes. Was it the lacklustre creature design or just the comparisons to Spielberg's previous films that made it a disappointment for some viewers? The win was somewhat unexpected since both Bridesmaids and The Tree of Life looked to be vying for the top spot, but they ultimately settled at #2 and #3 respectively. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 came in fourth with 13% of the votes, while The Muppets (sitting at an astounding 97% on Rotten Tomatoes) rounded out the top 5. Warrior and Hugo would appear to be the least overrated of the bunch, although that could also be because less people saw them. Do you agree with these results?

1. Super 8 -- 24.6%
2. Bridesmaids -- 16.6%
3. The Tree of Life -- 15.2%
4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 -- 13%
5. The Muppets -- 7.1%
6. Rise of the Planet of the Apes -- 6.4%
7. Drive -- 5.9%
8. Contagion -- 4.5%
9. Hugo -- 3.5%
10. Warrior -- 3.4%
FOR MORE DAILY MOVIE GOODNESS, VISIT FILMJUNK.COM!

As we continue to work on finalizing our top 10 lists for the next podcast, I thought we should keep the year end discussion going here with a question that always brings about some passionate arguments. Throughout the year there are usually a few movies that we hear great things about, only to actually watch them and find ourselves underwhelmed. Sure, they might still be decent movies, but just not the masterpiece that everyone claims they are. Here is your chance to vent about these disappointments. While the poll obviously can't cover all of them, hopefully we've at least got the most important ones listed. What do you think was the most overrated movie of 2011? Which of these don't even deserve to be on the list? Cast your vote in this week's poll and then discuss further in the comments below.

It's that time of year again, folks! As the Best of 2011 lists start rolling out, we wanted to make sure we include you guys in the discussion as well. I think this is the sixth year that we have done the Film Junk Reader's Choice Awards, and just in case you're unfamiliar, the idea is that we pick five nominees in a number of different genres or categories and then open it up for voting throughout the month of December. Then sometime after Christmas, we unveil the winners!

As with every year, there are a handful of movies that could easily fit in a number of different categories. We usually try to organize it so that there are no clear cut winners just to keep things interesting. Also, in order to qualify, a movie needs to have received some sort of theatrical release in North America in 2011, and we generally try to keep it to movies that a majority of readers would have had a chance to see. Feel free to discuss our choices in the comments below. So what are you waiting for? Click through to cast your votes for the 2011 Film Junk Reader's Choice Awards!
FOR MORE DAILY MOVIE GOODNESS, VISIT FILMJUNK.COM!

No surprises here... Goodfellas was named Martin Scorsese's best film by Film Junk readers in last week's poll as it easily snagged over 40% of the votes. Was there ever any doubt? The only movie that even came close was Taxi Driver with 23%, while The Departed placed third with 12%. Raging Bull and Casino rounded out the top 5. Meanwhile Mean Streets and The Last Waltz came up with the short end of the stick this time around, although with so many great films to choose from it's easy to see why. What do you think, did Film Junk readers get it right or were they way off base on this one?

1. Goodfellas -- 40.7%
2. Taxi Driver -- 23.2%
3. The Departed -- 12%
4. Raging Bull -- 8.3%
5. Casino -- 6%

Although the release of Martin Scorsese's Hugo this weekend seems like it will be overshadowed by some of the other bigger releases, it's a significant movie because it will potentially show us what one of the greatest and most respected filmmakers working today can do with 3D technology. Here is a guy who has been making movies for 45 years and is still trying to adapt and try new things... if you ask me, he's not even close to being past his prime. Strangely, it seems that we haven't tackled Scorsese's filmography in a poll yet. Although there are some obvious choices that are likely to dominate the voting, I'm curious to see how some of his more recent works fare. What is Martin Scorsese's ultimate masterpiece? Cast your vote in this week's poll and then duke it out in the comments below.
