About a month and a half ago, the LA Times was reporting that, following a special screening of I’m Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix, distributors still weren’t sure whether the Casey Affleck-directed film, chronicling Joaquin Phoenix’s supposed downward spiral, was real or not.
“Agents at William Morris Endeavor, the sellers of the Casey Affleck-directed film, have started showing the movie to potential distributors, and while some were apparently interested in bidding for I’m Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix’s distribution rights, the shoppers left the screening perhaps even more mystified by Phoenix’s behavior than when they walked in.”

Bad news. Platinum Dunes’ remake of The Monster Squad is getting ever closer to actually happening. It was announced this week that the writing team of Mark and Brian Gunn have officially been hired to pen the script. If the news was that the screenplay was being written by James Gunn (who is Brian’s brother and Mark’s cousin), I’d actually be all for it, but Mark and Brian’s best credit is Bring It On Again. Yeah, that’s right, Bring It On Again. Let’s just hope that a little James rubbed off on these guys when they were working on his PG Porn webisodes. More after the jump…

The first images from AMC’s new zombie apocalypse television series, The Walking Dead (based on the comic series of the same name by Robert Kirkman), are starting to pour in. As a huge fan of the comics myself, these photos are starting to give me confidence that the source material is in good hands, but I’m not sure it makes me any more excited for Andrew Lincoln. See, I had mixed feelings when I first heard that Lincoln had been cast as Rick Grimes: disappointment that the producers hadn’t gone for Aaron Eckhart (the obvious choice for me), but relief that Darabont hadn’t cast Thomas Jane, his Mist golden-boy.
For me, Jane has a flavor of camp even when he is playing it straight. While I am totally down for a campy zombie show (it sounds like a Zombieland series may also be on its way), I think that The Walking Dead has the potential to finally be the show that can step up and satiate the Lost audience (after all the failed Heroes and Flash Forwards) as the next great television drama with a sci-fi adventure twist. Of course, a solid lead is key to the success of any show. Does Lincoln fit the bill?

The filmmaker that shocked audiences with Trainspotting and 28 Days Later, then tugged at their heart strings with Millions and Slumdog Millionaire, is now being tapped to wow a much larger audience in an entirely different way. Yep, Danny Boyle may direct the opening ceremonies for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
When Boyle will find time for this, I don’t know. He just wrapped 127 Hours (which he shot in Utah with James Franco) and has three new projects on deck (including a possible third film in the 28 series). Still, a recent article by Times Online makes it sound as though it is all but a done deal:

Rumours

Following fan speculation ranging from Johnny Depp to Neil Patrick Harris to Eddie Murphy, Hollywood Life is now reporting that Joseph Gordon-Levitt may be in talks to play The Riddler in a third Christopher Nolan Batman movie. Gordon-Levitt is, of course, a major player in Nolan’s upcoming (non-Batman) film, Inception and apparently Nolan was a big fan of Gordon-Levitt’s work on the set.
Earlier Batman rumors linked to the actor included the far-fetched notion that Gordon-Levitt may replace Heath Ledger (with whom he starred in 10 Things I Hate About You) as The Joker. Not surprisingly, representatives for both Nolan and Gordon-Levitt have flat out denied that rumor, but recent talk surrounding a turn by Gordon-Levitt as The Riddler may be more valid. More after the jump…

The internet was abuzz last weekend with the death of ’80s child star Gary Coleman. Now, the first clip of Gary Coleman’s final project, an animated series called Stardumb, has been released. Good Morning America showed a very brief glimpse during an interview with Coleman’s widow on Monday but, thanks to inside connections at Stardumb’s production company, Film Junk was able to get an exclusive first look at the full teaser.
Coleman was in the studio just one week before his death recording his voice for Stardumb, an absurdist comedy about living life at the bottom of the Hollywood food chain. Check out the teaser and more info on the show after the jump.
