This Week on DVD and Blu-ray: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Zero Dark Thirty, This is 40

dvdhobbit

We’ve got some pretty big releases hitting DVD and Blu-ray this week, but the smaller indie titles are far and few between. Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is the obvious must-have movie, while two of this year’s Best Picture nominees are also hitting stores as well: Kathryn Bigelow’s controversial Zero Dark Thirty and Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables. Judd Apatow’s This is 40 is also out today along with the VOD hit Bachelorette and Jacques Audiard’s acclaimed drama Rust and Bone. If that’s not enough, Criterion is also bringing The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp and Terrence Malick’s Badlands to Blu-ray for the first time. Will you be buying or renting anything this week? Check out the full list of new releases after the jump.

I really want to get The Hobbit on blu, but you just know they’ll release extended editions after the third and make a nice box out of them.

It pisses me off that I have to wait an entire year before I get the extended edition of the film. There really isn’t any logic in waiting so long. Just release the fucking thing!

  • Owozifa

I heard there is some kind of mail in rebate offer on The Hobbit that requires cutting out the barcode? What is this barbarian crap?

How could there be an extended edition of the Hobbit? It’d be 4 hours? That’s insane. Also that’s a cool image but not blu ray cover art material!

Not to mention none of the versions of The Hobbit feature HFR, which is a shame. Agreed Bas, I’ll just wait 3 years for a boxed set.

    BLU-RAY + DVD + ULTRAVIOLET (???)

I guess I am in the minority that truly welcomes an extended version of the Hobbit. I purchased it yesterday and honestly rewatched it in one sitting. AND want more to it!!!!

Guess it’s the Goji berries I was sampling
