M. Night Shyamalan’s After Earth Trailer #2

Out of all the major blockbusters coming out this summer, M. Night Shyamalan’s After Earth feels like one of the biggest gambles. That may seem crazy to say about a movie starring Will Smith, but it’s an original property that’s not based on any existing franchise and it comes out one week before Man of Steel. There’s also the matter of M. Night Shyamalan’s reputation, which has definitely fallen off in recent years (note the fact that his name is not being mentioned anywhere in the marketing materials).

Still, if you ask me, both the previous trailer and this new one look pretty decent. With all the jungle environments and wild animals, it feels a bit like Avatar, and I think we can count on comparisons to Oblivion as well. But is there more to the story than just pure survival? After Earth hits theatres on June 7th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

    Another weird voice…whats the deal with this trend?
    Though it may be OK I have no real urge to see this in the theater. It seems like an amped up Discovery Channel special.

    Sounds like the score from Deus Ex Human Revolution at the start there. This looks like some fun sci-fi.

    I actually think it looks pretty good, except for Jaden flying around in his air suit, that looks stupid. But I think that will be one I might see in the theatre. Might even take my oldest son, depending on thye rating.
