New to Theatres This Weekend: Oz the Great and Powerful, Dead Man Down, Emperor

The first major blockbuster of the year arrives in theatres this weekend as Disney will be hoping that Oz the Great and Powerful has another stellar March opening along the same lines as Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Granted, the movie doesn’t have the star power of Johnny Depp and the novelty of 3D has pretty much worn off, but the name recognition of The Wizard of Oz cannot be overlooked. The only other major release in theatres is the crime thriller Dead Man Down starring Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace. If neither of those float your boat, you can also find a handful of interesting releases in select theatres including the historical drama Emperor starring Matthew Fox and Tommy Lee Jones, deranged horror anthology The ABCs of Death, and Beyond the Hills, the latest film from the director of 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days. Will you be watching anything this weekend?
