Chris Cooper to Play Norman Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Earlier this week we caught a glimpse of the first photos of Shailene Woodley playing Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Now today we have another casting update from the sequel, which is starting to get awfully crowded. Last year it was announced that Dane DeHaan would be playing Harry Osborn in the movie but there was no mention of whether or not his father would appear in the film. We now know that Norman Osborn will indeed be making an appearance and he will be played by none other than Chris Cooper. Whether or not the Green Goblin will turn up in this particular movie remains to be seen.
According to THR, Chris Cooper has joined The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as Norman Osborn, taking on the role previously played by Willem Dafoe in Sam Raimi’s trilogy. No other information has been provided aside from the fact that he “starts out as a mentor to the superhero before turning bad.” If he does become Green Goblin in the movie, it will mean that he is now the third confirmed villain (Jamie Foxx plays Electro and Paul Giamatti is Rhino).
Although I liked The Amazing Spider-Man more than most, the same potential issues seem to be cropping up time and time again: rehashed storylines and the introduction of too many characters at once. The latest draft of the script was written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner (Fringe). Do you think Chris Cooper will make a decent Green Goblin?

Posted by Steve on February 27th, 2013Chris Cooper is great but I thought Willem DaFoe was a great Osborn/Goblin. This flick is shaping up nicely.
Posted by Chopper on February 28th, 2013I have a feeling he won’t become the Green Goblin until the very end, as a tease for ASM 3.
