Peter Dinklage Joins X-Men: Days of Future Past

Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past is shaping up to be a pretty exciting proposition for X-Men fans. Not only will it continue the storyline from Matthew Vaughn’s excellent X-Men: First Class, but it will also tie in to the previous X-Men trilogy through the use of time travel. Several of the actors from the previous films will reprise their roles including Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page and Shawn Ashmore. They’ve been keeping a lot of the plot under wraps, but now this week Bryan Singer has revealed one more intriguing addition to the cast: Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage. Who could he be playing?

The news comes courtesy of Bryan Singer himself, who sent out the following update via Twitter yesterday:

“Officially like to welcome #PeterDinklage from #GameOfThrones to #XMEN #DaysofFuturePast Very very excited!”

Singer neglected to mention what role he will be playing, which could mean a couple of things. It could mean that his role is closely tied to the film’s plot or it could mean that he will be suiting up as a well-known character that they want to keep a surprise. I suppose the other less exciting possibility is that he’s just playing a no-name civilian, which would simply not be worth mentioning. Some fans seem to think he will be playing the diminutive Puck from Alpha Flight, but I think that might be a stretch. We haven’t heard anything about Alpha Flight being involved at all, and that character does not seem like one that is begging to be added to the X-Men line-up.

In other X-Men news, Singer recently revealed that the movie will be shot in 3D and that he is planning to use motion capture technology for certain scenes. He also told Collider that part of the movie takes place in the ’70s and that Richard Nixon will make an appearance. The movie starts production this April in Montreal. Are you excited that so many familiar faces are returning for X-Men: Days of Future Past? Who do you think Peter Dinklage might be playing?

  1. Sounds like a winner!

  2. Puck from the comic “Alpha Flight”, a Canadian super hero team similar to the X Men.

    He would be perfect.

  3. Can we refer to the brilliant Peter Dinklage as simply ‘Dinkles’ from now on?
