I’m thinking it’s Willow, Labyrinth, Legend, Neverending, and Dark Crystal. And Greg’s weird pick might be Ladyhawke, Ator the Fighting Eagle, Red Sonja, or Masters of the Universe.
It would be awesome if you guys did Lucio Fulci’s Conquest, I’ll put that out there.
Posted by Tum Tum Tyranus on February 6th, 2013The Last Stand was better than Bullet to the Head.
Posted by Indianamcclain on February 6th, 2013Movie programs were handed out to the right people
Did you try the spicy chilli Kit Kat yet? That’s one I’ve never had. Did it have any kick to it?
Posted by Austin in Japan on February 6th, 2013Colin Hanks
Posted by Tum Tum Tyranus on February 6th, 2013Rodriguez “died” in Fast & Furious.
Posted by rjdelight on February 6th, 2013War of the Worlds is the film w/ the floating bodies in the river
Posted by Tum Tum Tyranus on February 6th, 2013Yes, War of the Worlds is the film Jay was thinking of. I just remember there was a piece of clothing (or something) leading to a body on the river bank, just like in Black Sunday. But WotW is probably where I’ve seen that shot before.
Posted by Stan the Man on February 6th, 2013“I’m thinking it’s Willow, Labyrinth, Legend, Neverending, and Dark Crystal. And Greg’s weird pick might be Ladyhawke, Ator the Fighting Eagle, Red Sonja, or Masters of the Universe.”
Haven’t listened to the podcast yet, and i don’t know what Tum Tum’s referring to, but THAT list right there should become a premium-motherfuckin-junkcast right here.
Along with Krull, Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger, and original Clash of the Titans in there too!
Take my money now you fuckers!
Posted by Danno on February 6th, 2013Wow, under siege on top of die hard? Xmas came early this year again, add sudden death as well pls! Like sean said its on netflix and is one of the last big budget die hard rip offs! Btw hats off to jay for his commitment to fans, true superstar…
Posted by milandob on February 6th, 2013Frank looks like Ryan Gosling with more voluptuous curves

Posted by kyri on February 6th, 2013@Tum Tum – A few good guesses there. You’ll find out if you’re right.
@Austin – I had the spicy pepper rather close to trying wasabi and red bean paste. I did not feel well afterwards. The strawberry was good and the apple was decent. Very strange overall.
Posted by Greg on February 6th, 2013Could not disagree more with the marketing guy’s junkmail. I am totally cool with the off topic chat. Your guys’ random conversations are a big part of what makes Film Junk my favorite podcast. And some of the funniest parts of the show have come out of those segments.
Posted by Jacob on February 6th, 2013I WOULD buy a million Japanese Kit Kats the day the Japan guy sends his. D’OH.
Posted by Falsk on February 6th, 2013I’ll gladly eat more Japanese Kit Kats.
Posted by Sean on February 6th, 2013There have been many different incarnations of the Sinister Six and Rhino was indeed a member at one time.

Posted by Sean Kelly on February 6th, 2013Major nitpick ahead: hearing Jay say “batina” B like 5 times during the White Zombie segment almost threw me into a tenter tantrum.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/patina?s=t
Also gonna throw some support behind Frank for holding off on the Last Boy Scout blu combo pack thing. Stay strong Frank.
Posted by FDB on February 6th, 2013I agree with Jacob, the reason why Film Junk works is because of the “nonsense”. That’s the best part of the show! There’s tons of almost identical humor-less movie podcasts out there, let Film Junk keep its niche.
Posted by Kasper on February 6th, 2013I absolutely agree that you guys judge blockbusters much more fairly than most podcasts I’ve heard, and my favorite thing is that you don’t make apologies for the movie (“It’s just a dumb action movie, but…”). It always drives me crazy when people have to justify their opinion of action or horror films and it comes off as very pretentious. Furthermore, your random discussion is one of my favorite aspects of the show and sets it apart from all others. Keep that up.
Posted by Steve on February 6th, 2013For the oscars show can’t you use googlevideo like row3 do?
Posted by CrazyXCrazy on February 6th, 2013I don’t get what that guy was talking about. You guys are really fair to the movies you guys review. I don’t always agree of course, but you guys are very aware of the types of movies you guys are reviewing before going in to the review. I love a good popcorn movie, but I too think the second two Transformers movies are pieces of shit. Just because they are popcorn movies doesn’t mean they get a pass if the acting sucks, the story is incoherent and all over the place, and the sense of humor is completely juvenile and middle-of-the-road. Keep on doing what you’re doing, guys, and you’ll never get any complaints from me.
Posted by David on February 6th, 2013The “body floating downriver and hitting other bodies” is from 1984′s The Killing Fields starring the great Sam Waterston. Think it took place in Cambodia.
Posted by Lori C on February 6th, 2013Keep it off topic and long, don’t ever change, Film Junk.
Posted by Essie on February 6th, 2013Labyrinth is a guarantee. Princess Bride maybe?
As for the eating in the beginning of shows, I’m all for it.
Posted by patrik on February 6th, 2013In the case of Kate Beckinsale, she was not with Len Wiseman when she was cast.. The lucky shit got with her during the making of the movie..
Posted by patrik on February 6th, 2013I absolutely agree with the BTTH fact that Walter Hill did not bring anything to the film. In The Last Stand–which I enjoyed more–you can see flourishes of Kim Jee-Woon’s touches in the film.
Such as when Knoxville was carried off and his helmet clanks.
Another agree with Jay & Greg. BTTH is good for a straight-to-dvd film. The Last Stand, it’s simplistic but to me it feels like this belongs in the theatre.
Posted by Steve Kasan on February 6th, 2013As far as the “serious film lover” discussions go, one of my pet peeves is when people hop online and BLAME people for movie X not being a hit or not doing blockbuster numbers because general audiences must be stupid or something. “The Master wasn’t a huge hit because you people were too busy watching Hotel Transylvania, you fuckers!”, when in fact, I didn’t see “The Master” because it never played on more than a few hundred screens, none of which were near me. I hate being talked to like I’m an asshole if I decide that I don’t want to raise my kids from birth on the works of Paul Thomas Anderson and Darren Aronofsky. “Smurfs made a zillion dollars, but no one saw Tree of Life? Fuck Hollywood, all they crank out is bullshit!”
Posted by PlanBFromOuterSpace on February 6th, 2013I think the reason why a lot of TV shows haven’t been released on Blu-Ray is because our parents don’t give a shit about Blu-Ray.
I think a few of us have suggested the series “Parenthood” to Frank, because a) he loves the movie, and b) it’s an excellent show that after 4 seasons has still drawn a lot from and elaborated on a lot of themes from the film. I think he addressed it on the podcast once, saying he hadn’t seen it because it hasn’t been released on Blu-Ray. At this point, unless they decide to do something after the series ends, I don’t think it’s EVER hitting Blu-Ray, so just check the damn thing out already! The fourth season just wrapped up and if it’s coming back, it probably won’t be back until at least Fall. You have plenty of time!
Posted by PlanBFromOuterSpace on February 6th, 2013great show as always, thank you.
+1 @22
Posted by MrHorse on February 6th, 2013Booo to the marketing guy. I’m actually disappointed when the intro is finished and the review begins. More off topic chat please!
@Sean what was Frank talking about with you having something from Japan framed on your wall? Is it some of those mini-movie posters you can get at the cinema or something?
Posted by Austin in Japan on February 6th, 2013Fast & Furious Premium Podcast?
Posted by Gord on February 6th, 2013I’m going out on a limb and say Battle for Endor for Greg.
…it’s sorta fantasy.
And anyone who doesn’t think Jay’s is Krull is kidding themselves.
Posted by Owozifa on February 6th, 2013@Austin: Yeah I have (or had) a bunch of those mini-handbill poster things placked and hanging on my wall. Bought a few off eBay a long time ago and then picked up a bunch more when we were in Japan in 2009. We’re currently redoing our rec room though and I’m thinking they may not go back up afterward.
@CrazyXCrazy: There are no technical limitations on doing a live video feed, it’s just that we’re not really into the video thing. It totally ruins the mystique.
Posted by Sean on February 6th, 2013Don’t listen to that marketing dude I like the off-topicness!
Posted by piggystardust on February 7th, 2013I have to disagree that Walter Hill didn’t bring his “Style” to BTTH. First off, Hill’s style isn’t like Wes Anderson’s where you can view a still shot and tell it comes from him. Can you do that for John Huston, John Sturges, or (frequent Jay ejac target) Richard Lester? I’d say no. The opening credits of BTTH is pure Hill, the Ry Cooder-esque score and alternating title cards with action. He does this with nearly all this films. After that, I’d say the next big Hill trait in BTTH is economy, economy, economy. He doesn’t waste a frame in any of his movies. Not calling the movie a masterpiece, but there’s a lot of Hill in there.
Posted by projectgenesis on February 7th, 2013I also disagree with Jimmy Durante of Blue Balls Marketing. This podcast gets fans based not only on it’s subject matter of movie reviews and news, but also on the personalities of it’s hosts. I would think if he’s in marketing, he would realize that. It’s the same as when news anchors banter. He’d probably say, “just read the news!” which, I’m sure many people would agree. But market research has been done showing that tv news gains viewers by having it’s on-air crew be personable and engaging. If you want straight news, just read news stories online. And if you want straight film reviews, just read reviews online. Also, I’ve found the FJ crew’s reviews are more than fair, for all genres of film.
Posted by Brendan on February 7th, 2013Also, if Jay didn’t choose Krull for the 80s fantasy premium, I’ll eat a giant spider.
Posted by Brendan on February 7th, 2013Every time there is a Blu-ray/DVD related question, I picture Greg falling fast asleep.
The marketing guy’s email was funny. Oh wait, that was serious? The magic of Film Junk to me is that you guys are friends, you’re all in the room together, and the conversation can range from serious to not serious at all. Most other film podcasts lack one or more of these ingredients.
Posted by Bob on February 7th, 2013Sean. Three and a half for BTTH. No. I always enjoy what you have to say but your scoring of late is wack. The score you gave it did not reflect what you said. You clearly enjoyed the film with reservations which to me would be a 3 at best.
I like to think of the four star system as
4 star equal great film
3 star equal good film
2 star equal ok film
1 star equal crap film
Sean mate you thought it was good so 3 max. That said keep up the good work lads love your show.
Posted by Tarn on February 7th, 2013The only reservations I had were Sung Kang, but I even kind of liked him.
Posted by Sean on February 7th, 2013You guys need to watch more Fast and Furious movies so you know what the fuck you’re talking about. Or don’t talk about it at all.
That conversation was hilariously wrong on almost every sentence uttered.
I would pay big for a F&F premium. Big = about a dollar.
Posted by Andrew James on February 7th, 2013I think the real problem with the Fast and Furious movies is that they are just not memorable. Did Michelle Rodriguez die in part 4 not part 1? Was she even in part 4? I have no idea.
Posted by Sean on February 7th, 2013nthing the fact that that marketing guy is off his fucking rocker. Off topic chat is the the best stuff on the show. More random stories and chats, please.
Posted by csidle on February 7th, 2013What makes the show unique is the off topic conversations. I think when you guys talk about your day-to-day stuff, it’s brings the audience in and also reminds them that you guys don’t take things too seriously. I applaud the marketing guy for speaking his mind, but his perspective felt like he was trying to monitize the show.
I know you guys are really into video coverage, but what about filming the package unboxing/snack consumption?
Posted by Chris from Chicago on February 7th, 2013as soon as you said movie with a great premise that ruined it, i was hoping that Jay would bring up the awful movie “Another Earth” which had an awesome premise and did nothing with it.
Posted by CrumbThumber on February 7th, 2013The guys aren’t “movie snobs” enough!
Posted by xCraigx on February 7th, 2013@crumbthunder Or you missed the premise of the film. The movie was great. Agreed that if you went in expecting a SciFi Apocalypse movie or whatever, then you’d be let down.
But the movie is a n interpersonal drama. And it works well on that level.
Posted by Andrew James on February 8th, 2013@Sean. She died in 4. Which was not really a very good movie.
3 is the only one I haven’t seen and it doesn’t involve any of the main characters from the other films. So I didn’t and don’t care much about that one.
Part 1 and part 5 are the two best ones.
Posted by Andrew James on February 8th, 2013About the Fast and Furious movie plots, it also doesn’t help that they skip around the timeline from film to film, so who isn’t alive and what took place when is pretty messed up at this point.
Posted by Brendan on February 8th, 2013When did we start to accept mediocrity as the best a popcorn movie can achieve? Is Raiders of the Lost Ark deep? Is it “serious”? Of course not. Is it a perfect popcorn movie in that it treats its audience with respect, gives us characters we care about, and at the same time have thrilling set pieces and twists and turns galore?
I don’t remember that when that movie came out there was this “let’s go easy on the blockbuster because it’s supposed to be dumb” mentality.
Remember, if the audience embraces mediocrity, then that’s what the audience is gonna get. It’s like we’ve gotten used to it. Makers of pure entertainment should have the same responsibilty as makers of message movies and serious drama and that is: Make the best movie you possibly can. Don’t bore the audience or treat it like a bunch of morons.
I don’t want to “leave my brain at the door” or just “turn off my brain”. I wanna see a good movie, blockbuter or not. Maybe I’m too demanding…
Posted by Lior on February 9th, 2013There’s a reason why Film Junk has been going so
long – ands thats because of the format.
If the marketing guy doesn’t like the off-topic chat
then thats his right but me, and I think many others
here, love it.
The ‘on-air’ trying out snacks is a great addition to
Posted by Tahir on February 9th, 2013th show – Just like Frank
Another vote for on-air snack-trying. I hope this reaches Giant Bomb levels of mailbag-receiving.
Posted by Captain Fram on February 13th, 2013Dude. The fucking clown who owns his own social media marketing company, what the fuck is that dumb made up shit. Dudes owns some lame ass shit and is a fan transformers? Suck a dick dude. Also the off topic shit is as great as the on topic shit. So go suck another dick. Social media marketing…. Ughhh.
<3
Posted by Clown marketing on February 13th, 2013Follow up:
That off topic shit is so good I’m wondering if we can just get like a constant stream of like jay watching tv and/or making tea and just being an all around a really swell guy or frank playing jungle strike alone for eternity just crushing buckets of noodles and chicken wings or something. Maybe a camera outside of Greg’s trailer… Maybe scored to some of that metal devil worshipping stuff he’s into just pounding whatever the Canadian equivalent of steel reserve is. Or Sean doing white people things like boring stuff like playing with yo-yos or watching the voice and raising a kid
Just some suggestions.
Posted by Clown marketing on February 13th, 2013My vote for the fantasy film podcast would be ‘The Sword & the Sorcerer’ (1982). Without the interwebs and being about 14 we used to pick our movies by their covers in the video store. This one blew my mind and I raved about it until seeing it again 10 years later and laughed the whole way through. This is a 10 outa 10 stars for me.
Posted by Matt the Kiwi on February 13th, 20138 out 10 for nostalgia. 1 for boobs. 1 for a sword with 3 blades that fucking fire out! I mean, come on!
And Lior, your comment about popcorn blockbusters is so spot on I wish I’d said it myself.
what the junk? no junk?
