New to Theatres This Weekend: Bullet to the Head, Warm Bodies, Stand Up Guys

There’s no mistaking the fact that we’re still in the dead of winter and the odds are stacked against most of this weekend’s new releases as they are forced to compete with the Super Bowl. The movie with the best shot at success is probably Warm Bodies, the zombie rom-com based on the popular book by Isaac Marion. However, Sylvester Stallone will be hoping that his new action flick Bullet to the Head can at least fare better than Schwarzenegger’s The Last Stand, while Al Pacino, Alan Arkin and Christopher Walken play grumpy old hitmen in Stand Up Guys. In select theatres, look for a handful of documentaries including Dave Grohl’s Sound City and Oscar nominee The Gatekeepers, plus… The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia. What will you be watching this weekend?

  1. Warm Bodies is getting really good reviews… sure you guys aren’t down for reviewing it for next week’s show?

  2. I assume Koch is about Frank.

  3. Looks like I have a date with Stallone, especially considering that the director is Walter Hill, who is no stranger to genre action flicks. Check the Onion’s interview with the director here http://www.avclub.com/articles/walter-hill-antibuddy-movie-evolution-action-film,91867/

  4. WARM BODIES was surprisingly good. Not great, but well worth the matinee price. It has its cheese, but unlike most tween novel adaptations, I liked the subject matter far more and the characters were a bit more “fleshed out.” I wouldn’t rush out to see it right away, but it’s well worth a poke.
