Monday Morning Box Office Report: Movie 43 Flops, Hansel and Gretel Floats to the Top

Surprise, surprise… it was a pretty slow weekend at the box office, and although poor weather is partially being blamed for the lack of ticket sales, I think we all know that the movies are the real reason. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters came away with the least scars after an acceptable $19 million debut (a few million more than Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter made last summer), proving that Jeremy Renner can draw a crowd even outside of massive studio blockbusters. Mama fell to #2 followed by Silver Linings Playbook and Zero Dark Thirty. Meanwhile Parker opened in fifth with a mediocre $7 million, which is about on par with most recent Jason Statham flicks, and Movie 43 opened in seventh with a disastrous $5 million. Granted, the budget was only $6 million, but considering the number of stars in it, there is no way to spin that as a success.
1. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters — $19M
2. Mama — $12.9M
3. Silver Linings Playbook — $10M
4. Zero Dark Thirty — $9.8M
5. Parker — $7M
6. Django Unchained — $5M
7. Movie 43 — $5M
8. Gangster Squad — $4.2M
9. Broken City — $4M
10. Les Misérables — $3.91M
