Olympus Has Fallen Trailer Starring Gerard Butler

Don’t look now, but we’ve got a pair of competing White House invasion movies headed our way this year, one directed by Antoine Fuqua and the other directed by Roland Emmerich. As is usually the case with dueling projects of this nature, it seems like the first one to hit theatres will probably be the lesser of the two — in this case, we’re talking about Antoine Fuqua’s Olympus Has Fallen. What makes this one look worse than White House Down? Well for starters, it happens to star Gerard Butler in the lead role.
Judging by the first trailer, it looks like a relatively mediocre Die Hard clone. A group of terrorists take over and a disgraced former Presidential guard (Butler) is left alone behind enemy lines with a chance to redeem himself. The most surprising thing about this trailer is the fact that Morgan Freeman does not play the President; instead Aaron Eckhart has that honour. Dylan McDermott, Ashley Judd, Radha Mitchell, Melissa Leo, Angela Bassett and Robert Forster also appear. Olympus Has Fallen hits theatres on March 22nd; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

Of course Morgan Freeman isn’t the president. I mean, it was 1998 when he helped save us from giant meteors, so even if that had happened at the beginning of his first term, he’d have been out of there by 2006 at the latest! If he was still active on the political scene, he’d probably be an ambassador or maybe the Secretary of Whateverthefuck. Jeez…
In the Roland Emmerich flick, there has to be some reason for the action to move to New York at some point, because he just hasn’t destroyed NYC (or DC too for that matter) ENOUGH in his films.

Posted by cap on January 22nd, 2013Forget Die Hard clone this looks and feels like a genuine 90s action film.

Looks fun and I like Butler!
Posted by FoxMulder on January 22nd, 2013I don’t dislike Butler but at this point his involvement usually isn’t a good sign. Then again, maybe this is the start of his comeback!
Posted by Sean on January 22nd, 2013Glad to see more straight up action flicks getting made these days. I miss all the Die Hard on a (fill in the blank) movies. I welcome their return.
Posted by rjdelight on January 22nd, 2013I can see the Butler criticisms, he can be hit and miss. But the supporting cast here is pretty stellar.
Posted by rjdelight on January 22nd, 2013This looks like a lot of dumb fun, count me in!
Posted by Bas on January 23rd, 2013This is some seriously implausible nonsense, but that’s what 80′s / 90′s action is all about. Butler stinks though.
Posted by Mrespony on January 23rd, 2013Ever since coming onto the main stage with 300, Butler has always seemed chubby afterwards. I mean, I know he ain’t, like, like, like, AT ALL, but with that impossible standard, boy-o just always now looks like he’s holding some serious water weight.
Posted by baron von testicle on January 23rd, 2013That image of Clive Owen really looks like the cover for Bioshock Infinite.

Posted by brick on January 23rd, 2013I was about to note how good it was to see Ashley Judd on the big screen again.
Then they killed her off half a minute through the trailer…
Posted by La Menthe on January 24th, 2013Me like lots
Posted by Spooksta on January 25th, 2013The CGI looks like CGI. It looks like what you’d see in a video game trailer.
