There’s no question that 2012 was a stellar year for Matthew McConaughey, who took some risks and turned in some edgy performances in a handful of (mostly) acclaimed flicks. It’s also looking like 2013 could be just as impressive with a role in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street on the horizon, among other things. Before that, however, we’ll get to see him in Mud, the new film from Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter).

The story revolves around two young boys who stumble across a man hiding out on an island in the Mississippi. He claims to be on the run from a group of bounty hunters and makes a pact with the boys to help him re-unite with his girlfriend. The movie was nominated for the Palme d’Or at Cannes last year and is playing at Sundance this weekend as well. It hits theatres a few months later on April 26th; check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.
