Weekly Poll Results: Most Anticipated Movie of 2013

Last week we asked for your most anticipated movies of the year, and now that the results are in I think they are very interesting indeed. Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel came out on top with 21% of the votes, apparently making it the must-see comic book movie of the year. Whether that is due to an appreciation for Zack Snyder’s previous films, a strong marketing campaign or just a general love for Superman, I can’t say. Star Trek Into Darkness was at #2, which is not a huge surprise given the success of its predecessor. On the other hand, I was pretty shocked to see Anchorman: The Legend Continues in third place. Pacific Rim and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug rounded out the top 5. Finishing at the bottom of the list we had The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which is ironic considering that it could end up making more money than just about anything else on this list. Do you agree with these results?
1. Man of Steel — 21%
2. Star Trek Into Darkness — 16%
3. Anchorman: The Legend Continues — 10%
4. Pacific Rim — 9%
5. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug — 9%
6. Elysium — 8%
7. Gravity — 6%
8. The World’s End — 5%
9. Evil Dead — 5%
10. Iron Man 3 — 3%
11. The Great Gatsby — 3%
12. The Wolverine — 2%
13. G.I. Joe: Retaliation — 1%
13. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire — 1%

i dont give a shit for half those movies
Posted by csidle on January 16th, 2013For me: Evil Dead, Star Trek, World’s End and I guess Pacific Rim although the story looks crappy. The others I’m sure I’ll enjoy but not dying to see.
Posted by piggystardust on January 16th, 2013Personally, I’m most excited for Gravity. While I understand the lack of interest as we know so little about it and there hasn’t even been a teaser trailer yet, the fact remains that Children of Men is one of my favourite sci-fi thrillers of all time so I’m anxious to see Alfonso’s long-awaited followup.
Posted by kuddles on January 16th, 2013i picked gravity, even though sandra bullock is in it. im surprised the wolf of wall street wasnt on here, that’s probably #1 for me. looks like this is gonna be a huge year this year.
Posted by mitch on January 16th, 2013wow. people rather tend to go after the franchise than director. snyder and abrams most anticipated? they never learn…

I agree with you. But you have to take into account that those are the most marketed films on the list, with trailers having been released. I’m actually more surprised, and glad, that Elysium got 8%.The film has, to this point, hardly gotten any marketing at all, and even most of those who loved District 9, know that it is from the same director. Yet it got impressive 8% of the votes.
Another element that is important is the quality of the trailers. Everyone knows Snyder makes great trailers – as opposed to the films themselves. It therefore comes as no surprise that Man of Steel tops the list, with Star Trek, which also had a noteworthy trailer, on second.

I just didn’t expect that film junk listeners would be affected so much by the marketing.
