Jurassic Park 4 Gets a Release Date

Back in 1993, Jeff Goldblum taught us that “life finds a way”, referring to the inexorable march of evolution in Jurassic Park. In Hollywood, you could say that the very same motto applies to blockbuster sequels… if there’s money to be made, they inevitably find a way. Jurassic Park 4 has been in development for years, but up until now no one has been able to come up with a story that everyone agrees on. Then last year Universal hired Rise of the Planet of the Apes writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver to give it another shot. It would appear that they’ve been able to satisfy everyone, because Universal has officially set a release date for the film. That’s right, Jurassic Park 4 is happening, and it will hit theatres in 2014.
Over the weekend, Universal announced that Jurassic Park 4 will be released on June 13th, 2014. This will be almost 13 years after the last sequel hit theatres, which is a pretty big gap. Universal is re-releasing the original film in 3D this April to help introduce it to a new generation, but there has been talk that this will also be a reboot of sorts. The new movie will actually be shot in 3D, but what remains unclear is who will direct it.
Last we heard, Spielberg would be on board as a producer only, however, the recent delay of Robopocalypse is intriguing, to say the least. Spielberg still has not committed to direct anything else… could he be considering a return to the director’s chair for Jurassic Park 4? Whether or not Spielberg directs, I’m sure many will still be questioning the wisdom of doing a fourth movie. What do you think, does this franchise still have some life left in it? Are you game for Jurassic Park 4?

Can’t be worse than the third one… right?
Posted by Steve on January 14th, 2013Reboot of sorts. I wonder what that means. New timeline, different story? Or maybe same timeline, but different rich guy on a different island. Old Goldblum shows up to shake his finger at the new mogul as he does. Running, screaming, etc. Could be fun. I hope we get to see what happened to those Pterodactyls on the loose in JP3.
Posted by Steve on January 14th, 2013Exactly, it can’t be much worse than Jurassic Park 3.. How hard can it be? I mean, they’re making a movie about dinosaurs. They should be able to conjure up something interesting. Don’t think Spielberg will direct though..
Posted by patrik on January 14th, 2013I am remaining a little optimistic that Spielberg could direct with the fact that Robopocalypse was put on hold and with the pretty sudden and rather quick release date for Jurassic Park 4 it seems possible that maybe he is taking up the directors chair? This is hopeful me.
Posted by James on January 14th, 2013I want Spielberg! The Lost World was good even though it was bad. JP3 is just bad. I’d rather a good bad sequel than another bad bad one, if ya’ know what I mean.
Posted by Alicia Stella on January 14th, 2013Remember those strange rumors from years back, when JP4 was going to have talking dinos that worked for the government?
Posted by Matt on January 14th, 2013Hope that it will be something like “Dino Apocalypse” – a world war DINO would be ahmmmmmmm Cool? Don´t know, but i kind of liked the 3rd one.
Please don´t judge my taste, i have none. 1941 and The Terminal are Spielbergs best movie, or not.
Posted by Stinker on January 15th, 2013JP3 wasn’t terrible….. It just wasn’t Spielberg. I can think of plenty other films that were worse, like
