This Week on DVD and Blu-ray: Dredd, Frankenweenie, Samsara

After an expected slowdown in new releases over the holidays, we’ve got plenty of interesting DVDs and Blu-rays to talk about this week including a handful of overlooked theatrical releases and some solid indie flicks as well. The two biggest titles are Frankenweenie and Dredd, the latter of which will be desperate to find an audience at home after outright bombing in theatres. (Looper and Cosmopolis are also out but were already available in stores last week.) Other new releases include House at the End of the Street starring Jennifer Lawrence, Compliance, Samsara, and Sleep Tight, a Spanish horror flick from one of the directors of [REC]. TV releases include the third season of the animated series Archer and the second season of An Idiot Abroad, and new to Blu we have the original Cape Fear, Driving Miss Daisy and the Criterion release of Two-Lane Blacktop. What will you be buying or renting this week? Check out the full list of releases after the jump.

  1. Sleeper on blu next week. Woohoo

  2. Can’t wait to see Dredd again!

  3. My local Best Buy sold out of the “Dredd” Blu-Ray today, which is really weird. I mean, I’m sure they didn’t order too, too heavily on it, but they had a shit-ton of copies of the Nicolas Cage straight-to-video flick that also came out today. Of course I was able to still go right over to Wal-Mart and get it for the same price, but this is really unlike Best Buy.

  4. I have bought the Dredd soundtrack and I will be buying the Dredd bluray. I still live in hope that it’ll get a sequel if enough copies are sold.

  5. I want my DREDD 3D now! Can’t wait.

  6. I just impulse bought it based on the 5 minutes I saw in theatres, before checking out the Master and I don’t regret a second of it.
20 bucks for the 3D Blu-ray on Amazon, Frank.
