Terrence Malick’s To the Wonder Trailer Starring Ben Affleck

One of the more divisive films to play at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year was Terrence Malick’s To the Wonder, which wowed some viewers with its gorgeous imagery but turned off others with its minimal plot and general lack of dialogue. It definitely feels like a Terrence Malick film, but it is perhaps his least accessible movie to date despite having a high profile cast that includes Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Javier Bardem and Olga Kurylenko. Magnolia Pictures ended up picking up the U.S. distribution rights and will tentatively be releasing it in April.

In the U.K., however, it will hit theatres even sooner and now the first full trailer for the movie has debuted online courtesy of The Guardian. Although it’s fairly common for trailers to present clips of a movie set to a voice-over, in this case it is very much representative of what the movie itself feels like. Take that for what it’s worth… it’s not for everyone, but most of us here at Film Junk ended up enjoying it quite a bit. To the Wonder hits theatres in the U.K. on February 22nd; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

  1. Was it Ben Affleck that you guys thought had very little screen time? Because in the trailer he seems to be in every scene…

  2. I don’t think we said that he has very little screen time, just that he has very little dialogue (including voiceovers). Apparently almost all of his dialogue was cut from the film.

  3. I’m excited.

  4. Scott, do you visit this site entirely to post comments that are eclipsed in length by the advertisement eternally attached?

  5. tree of life bored me so i will skip this one

  6. I like it. It feels a lot different from ‘The Tree of Life,’ which I wasn’t quite expecting. It looks like Malick flic, but it feels a little more Hollywood? Not in a bad way of course. I’m in.

  7. 4 – I love this site just like Plan9 and all the other people who post on here. Do you have a problem with us?

  8. Seems like Malick reads a lot of Osho.
