World War Z Trailer Starring Brad Pitt

After hearing about the endless string of rewrites and reshoots on Paramount’s upcoming adaptation of World War Z, it seems like a minor miracle that they finally managed to get their shit together and release an actual trailer for the film. Based on the book by Max Brooks and directed by Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace), World War Z stars Brad Pitt as a U.N. employee who is trying to stop a viral outbreak. Matthew Fox, David Morse, James Badge Dale and Mireille Enos also co-star.
My initial impression is that this appears to be more of a disaster movie than a horror movie. The trailer mostly focuses on showcasing chaos and pandemonium and although the massive swarms of CG undead look somewhat impressive, it remains to be seen whether the epic scale will add anything new to an already well-worn genre. Either way, the message is clear: this is potentially going to be the biggest, most expensive zombie flick the world has ever seen. World War Z hits theatres on June 21st; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

The zombie swarms look interesting and will either make it or break it for me. The CG-ness of them seems like it might be a bit jarring in comparison to the disaster aspect of the film. I’m in though.
Posted by Evan on November 8th, 2012This is either going to be a huge disaster/flop or a really interesting take on the book. Hard to tell from this either way, but it’s looking disasterish…
I loved the book but never really thought it would translate well to the screen due to the way it’s written (diary/multiple POVs).
I’m hoping I’m wrong, but this kind of looks like nothing but the war itself was pulled from the book. Bleh. Might be a fun movie still, but it’s kinda looking like Generic Zombie Movie #25456…
Posted by milath on November 8th, 2012I like the body swarm effect alot, its so grotesque and unusual that the cg-ness almost seems to lend itself to the body horror of it.
Posted by Jonny Ashley on November 9th, 2012I dig the trailer. Looks big and impressive. Lets see how well the end product works.
Posted by swarez on November 9th, 2012i’m just hoping they won’t overuse the swarm effect in the movie…got little bit repetitive in trailer.
Posted by anton on November 9th, 2012Someone should dub this trailer with Brad Pitt’s Chanel No 05.

Posted by Blake from Boston, MA on November 9th, 2012The trailer does feel like a disaster film more than anything else. Instead of tidal waves and lava flows there are waves of the people. Not digging the swarming effects and it’ll probably grow tiresome throughout the film. Looks silly and not scary at all. I much preferred the descriptions of similar swarms in Pontypool. Also, the trailer is ineffective at conveying what the crisis actually is. Those who haven’t heard of the novel will no idea what the ‘Z’ stands for. Looks like any disaster film and a disaster of a film.
Posted by Nuno on November 9th, 2012Looks awesome. I don’t get all the negativity regarding this. I haven’t read the book, so I don’t have that to hold against it, but I can’t imagine every negative comment being from people who hold the book in high regard.
Posted by Kasper on November 9th, 2012… first time I saw it, this came imediatly to my mind… what an amazing advert. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1YV2sNRK4I
Posted by MOliveira on November 9th, 2012jay will be happy to know that there’s a character named Terry in the movie
Posted by Jonny Ashley on November 9th, 2012I like it, looks cool. Kinda feels like what 28 Months LAter would be..
Posted by patrik on November 9th, 2012The best aspect of the book was that it showed the outbreak on a global scale. Looks like they are trying to keep that intact in the movie, while obviously focusing on brad pitt to get a wider audience interested.
Also, I don’t mind running zombies, but I have always preferred zombies that actually look dead. These seem very human looking from the trailer.
Posted by Matt on November 9th, 2012dumb, zombies with heighten speed…muscles budging…sorry, I like my zombies with muscles rotting. only reason anyone would like this is the name attached to a zombie movie – pitt.
Posted by rus in chicago on November 9th, 2012Seems like zombies in these movies are becoming less and less what we’ve come to accept by the definition. They just seem to be humans either possessed or affected in some way to act in a mindless, hive-like fashion. I suppose they are “dead” in the sense of no longer being what they were, but they’ve not died and then been re-animated. Oh well. Not that I’ve been much of a fan of the whole zombie thing anyway.
Posted by Maopheus on November 9th, 2012I’m not a big zombie film fan but I did like the trailer.
However, in my circle of friends there are some hardcore zombie film fans and they are none to pleased with the ‘fast’ zombies.
They’re also telling me this stuff is not in the book.
Posted by Tahir on November 10th, 2012I like the look of this but not Pitts wife. She looks all wrong! Casting person needs to be shot.
Posted by Spooksta on November 10th, 2012Was that the Dead Men of Dunharrow from Lord of the Rings racing across the screen? Can’t be zombies. Oh wait, this was helmed by Marc Forster, that explains it. What a waste of the book rights. Now we’ll have to wait another decade for a real adaptation of the book to come out done on a shoestring budget and under another title.
