Weekly Poll Results: Best Will Ferrell Movie

Well, no surprise here… Film Junk readers have chosen the endlessly quotable cult classic Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy as the #1 Will Ferrell flick according to last week’s poll. Personally, I was hoping for a little more variety in the responses, but the love for this movie is pretty well-documented. It took almost 50% of the votes, which means none of the other options even came close. Step Brothers placed second with 15%, followed by Old School with 11.5%. Stranger Than Fiction and Elf rounded out the top 5. Blades of Glory was relegated to last place (perhaps understandably), but I did expect The Other Guys to rank a little higher. Do you agree with these results?

1. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy — 47.7%
2. Step Brothers — 15.2%
3. Old School — 11.5%
4. Stranger Than Fiction — 8.7%
5. Elf — 6.8%
6. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby — 4.6%
7. The Other Guys — 1.9%
8. The Campaign — 1.5%
9. Melinda and Melinda — 1.2%
10. Blades of Glory — 0.9%

  1. I put Anchorman’s humor on the same level as the Rocky and Bullwinkle movie. It’s popularity is baffling to me. Will Ferrel is a one trick pony.

  2. Didn’t know Blades of Glory was disliked, as you make it seem, Sean. I think it’s pretty, although it’s no Anchorman.

  3. Yes… Anchorman One of the all time greats…

  4. I voted Anchorman, but I’m actually starting to think I like Step Brothers more.

  5. Yes Step Bros. is right there it gave me a good laugh cry… I think James Westfall, Dr. Kenneth Noisewater and the Octagon put anchorman in a little bit of a lead.

  6. I don’t get all the love for The Other Guys. Maybe compared to Cop Out it was amazing, but I thought it was one of Farrell’s worst. Voted for Anchorman.

  7. I think the issue here is that these polls (if I remember correctly) only allow you to vote for one “best” film, not rank the movies in order. Since you only get one choice, you’re not necessarily going to see the final poll’s order accuratley reflect the popularity of each film.

Also, they way the polls are stated can skew the vote. What one considers to be the “best” movie might mean something different to each person. One person might think it means the one that’s funniest overall, another might think it’s the one that has the best performance by that actor, regardless of how good the entire film is perceived.
