First Official Photos from the Upcoming Carrie Remake

If you thought that Chloe Moretz was too young and/or too cute to fill Sissy Spacek’s shoes in MGM’s upcoming Carrie remake, you might change your mind after seeing her doused in a bucket of blood. The image from Brian De Palma’s 1976 film is an iconic one and director Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry) seems to have done a decent job of recreating it here. But will the new film do anything to set itself apart or will it just coast by, content to hit all of the previous film’s familiar beats?
Carrie is currently in production in Toronto and this week EW has released two official photos from the movie. As you can see, the first one features Moretz as Carrie, but the other reveals Julianne Moore playing her abusive mother. While I think that Moretz will prove to be a solid choice, I’m not quite sold on Moore thus far. Check out larger versions of the photos after the jump along with some pics from the original for comparison.

original looks better in every way already.
Posted by Darksiders on August 23rd, 2012Shes too cute. Spacek always had that weird freaky look, wether she had special powers or not. till interested to see it though.
Posted by Spooksta on August 23rd, 2012I see Julliane Moore is reprising her role from Game Change.
Posted by Ozymandias on August 23rd, 2012I think I’ll wait to see the movie before I say anyone is wrong for the part.
Posted by Greg on August 23rd, 2012#1 In every way except for Moretz being better looking than Spacek..
I’ll check it out.
Posted by patrik on August 23rd, 2012Moretz was awesome in Let Me In, so I’m pretty excited for this. I’ll have to give the original a watch soon.
Posted by Steve on August 23rd, 2012# PATRIK — Chloe Moretz is only 15 years old.
Posted by James on August 23rd, 2012Yeah, and I’m 16.. No I’m not but how would you know? Wasn’t Jennifer Connelly like 14 or something in Labyrinth? Anyway, I know she’s young.. I just pointed out that she’s prettier than Spacek, it’s not like I fingerbanged her.. She’s given some pretty awesome performances so far in her career as well so I’m sure she’ll do good in this one too.
Posted by patrik on August 24th, 2012I remember as a kid hating “Carrie” soooooooo much, because the video box and every book about horror movies I’d seen up to that point made me think the movie was ALL about her getting her revenge after the whole prom incident, so I was waiting and waiting and waiting for something that would be interesting to my 10-year-old self…
