Ten New Photos from Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit

It’s official: principal photography on The Hobbit is now complete! Director Peter Jackson triumphantly announced the end of day 266 yesterday on Facebook, stating, “Next stop, the cutting room. Oh, and Comic Con!” Audiences can expect to be treated to the first public screening of 48 fps footage from the film there, although there is obviously still a ton of post-production work left to be done.

Earlier this week, EW unveiled a handful of new photos from The Hobbit, giving us a taste of what’s to come. A lot of it looks awfully familiar, but is that necessarily a bad thing? At the very least, having not one but thirteen dwarves along for the ride should provide a slightly different feel. What do you think, do these photos get you excited for the film or does it just look like more of the same? The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theatres on December 14th; check out the photos after the jump.

  1. I’m squarely in the “More of the Same” camp, but that might work out just fine? Does Ian McKellan have a “younger hairstyle”? Seems a bit more slicked back than I remember. Cate Blanchett looks like she’s just in a repeat shot from 10 years ago.

My biggest interest is how this 48fps is going to go down? Maybe that early revolt was an over reaction by the blogosphere. Knowing how the Comic Con crowd can be it could go either way.

  2. My main issue with the photos is that some of them look photorealistic rather than ethereal and other worldly, especially the shot of the shire, which looks pedestrian and not unlike some gardens near me.

The only thing thatl’ll bum me out about the films, apart from the year wait between them, would be if the film looks like it was shot in a studio.

  3. Do Gollum’s eyes seem bigger?
