Dark Tide Trailer Starring Halle Berry

I’m sure I’m not the first person to ask this question as of late, but man… what happened to Halle Berry? Back in the early 2000s, she won an Oscar for her performance in Monster’s Ball and she was right at the top of Hollywood’s A-list, starring in a James Bond film and the X-Men movies, among other things. Then in 2005, she made the mistake of starring in Catwoman and it all kind of went downhill from there. After a five year break with only appearances in New Year’s Eve and Frankie & Alice, this year she is back with a new movie directed by John Stockwell (Into the Blue, Blue Crush) that looks to be one step above direct-to-video fare. Wait, scratch that… it actually is direct-to-video fare.
Dark Tide finds Berry playing a shark expert named Kate who falls on hard times after a shark diving expedition goes awry. She has been unable to go back in the water ever since, but when a rich businessman offers her a lot of money to take him swimming with sharks, she is forced to face her fears. Yeah, this looks like a pretty straightforward and uninspired thriller, little more than a thinly veiled excuse to put Halle Berry in a bikini. But hey, there’s bound to be some hot on-screen chemistry between her and Olivier Martinez (Blood and Chocolate) since the two apparently hit it off on set and are now engaged! Dark Tide hits VOD on March 8th and select theatres on March 30th; check out the trailer after the jump.

I don’t know Sean…while watching this I got a feeling they are doing a more creative live footage thingy. It could be a sleeper with all the found footage and shark week love out there. would like to know more about the production
(PS I could be wrong but didn’t halle baby have a kid…are you going to take 5 years off Sean?)
Posted by rus in chicago on February 21st, 2012Actresses only really have a few years of being on top. There are a few exceptions obviously, but most of them fade away. It’s shitty, but it’s the nature of the Hollywood beast. After a while the offers just stop coming in and you’re forced to start taking shittier projects.
Posted by rjdelight on February 21st, 2012The main reason that Halle has been out of the spotlight is that she is a mediocre actress. A hot actress but a mediocre one. There is no way that performance in Monster’s Ball should have won her an Oscar. That’s another case of the Academy exclaiming, “Oh look, not only is this woman extremely attractive but she can act a little. Let’s give her a trophy.”
Consider the fact that she was given very little to do in X-Men and had to threaten not to return if her role as Storm was not more substantial in the sequels. The directors threw her a bone because they wanted to keep her in as eye candy.
What happened with Catwoman? Some say that it ruined her career. I say it was where her career was headed anyway. Halle and Catwoman were made for each other.
Swordfish is another role where her beauty and physical assets outperformed her acting.
Her knack for picking good roles is just as good as her skill for picking good husband candidates.
Is she another Cuba Gooding Jr. in the making? I hope not. I like Halle but she has to step it up a bit.
Posted by MovieViewerMan on February 21st, 2012The poster to this movie is amazing. It looks like a cover for a direct to DVD film. Something you’d see in “Blockbuster” have to stop and go “When was this made?” Great poster.
Posted by jurassicalien on February 22nd, 2012I wish her well. I am a fan and I have been disappointed that she hasn’t been working as much the last couple of years, but stars take breaks from filming every so often. Yes, she had a kid a while ago and probably took time off to be a mom and before that her career MAY have been floundering a bit, so that may have been another reason for her to take a break.
Next year she may have 5 films release, you never know. This film may not have a 100 million dollar budget, but if this is just her way of testing the waters and getting back into acting after taking a break, it works for that purpose.
It looks like it could be deceptively good and engrossing, we’ll just have to wait and see.
