Seeking a Friend for the End of the World Trailer Starring Steve Carell and Keira Knightley

This looks like a pretty weird one. Imagine if Lars Von Trier’s Melancholia had actually been a dramedy about a lonely man trying to reconnect with a high school sweetheart but ends up falling for his ditzy neighbour instead. Sounds pretty horrific, right? Well, that might give you some idea of what to expect from the trailer for Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, a new film starring Steve Carell and Keira Knightley. At the very least it seems like a somewhat original, albeit tonally awkward, take on the post-apocalyptic genre.
The trailer actually has some interesting and potentially funny ideas about how different people might react if they were told the world was going to end in three weeks, the problem is that the apocalypse just seems like window dressing for just another stereotypically cute indie film. The movie is written and directed by Lorene Scafaria (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) and co-stars Patton Oswalt, T.J. Miller, Gillian Jacobs, Rob Corddry, Derek Luke and Melanie Lynskey. Seeking a Friend at the End of the World hits theatres on June 22nd; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

Mmm, looks like delicious drive-in fare.
Posted by Falsk on February 10th, 2012Made me smile a few times – and I usually hate Steve Carrell. However, whenever the man does things where isn’t supposed to play a bumbling idiot, I like the guy. I wish he’d focus his entire career on this kind of stuff.
Posted by Kasper on February 10th, 2012I can’t stand Keira Knightley. Also this movie looks bleh…probably because Knightley is in it.
I think I hate her face and the stupid expressions she makes

Posted by Wintle on February 11th, 2012Given that this directed by the person who directed Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist I have very little faith in this film.
Posted by jackson on February 12th, 2012Ugh looks like any other indie romcom, minus the sci-fi bit of course. I usually keep these romcoms away with a 50 foot stick.
