2012 Golden Globe Winners

In case you missed it last night (as I did), here’s a recap of all the big winners from this year’s Golden Globes. Looking at the list of winners, it seems like there weren’t a ton of surprises, with The Descendants and The Artist ultimately coming out on top. This is all paving the way for a big showdown between the two films at the Oscars since there won’t be any drama and musical categories to separate them. It’s interesting to note, however, that neither Michel Hazanavicius nor Alexander Payne won Best Director; that honour went to Martin Scorsese for Hugo instead.
Elsewhere, The Adventures of Tintin stole the Best Animated Feature category from Rango, which could definitely give it the momentum it needs to get an Oscar nomination this year. Meryl Streep won her 8th career Golden Globe for The Iron Lady, while Octavia Spencer won her first for The Help. From what I hear Ricky Gervais was a little less nasty this year, but from some of the clips I’ve embedded below it doesn’t seem like he toned it down all that much. Did you watch the Golden Globes? Are you happy with this year’s winners? Check out the full list after the jump.

So is it safe to say that the Artist is going to win Best Picture at the Oscars?
Actually, I don’t know now. The film didn’t win for Screenplay or director. Fuck, this year was actually pretty wide open. Hell, even right before Best Picture – Drama was announced it was hard to guess which film would win. I still think it’ll be the Artist just judging by the way people are talking about it though.
Posted by Anthony on January 16th, 2012Hopefully Moneyball will be less snubbed at the Oscars this year. As much as I enjoyed The Descendants, it pales in comparison to Bennett Miller’s film.
Posted by Zac on January 16th, 2012They had Ricky Gervais tone down his act a bit.
