Bill & Ted 3 Actually Has a Script

In interviews over the past few years, Keanu Reeves has often fielded questions about another sequel to the 1989 comedy Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, the movie (along with Parenthood) that truly launched his career. He has maintained that a third Bill & Ted movie is currently in the works, although it has always seemed like he was either joking or merely placating fans. Now, this week we have an interesting update on the matter. It seems that a script for the movie has actually been completed, which means it is one step closer to becoming a reality. Is the world ready for one more wacky adventure with Bill S. Preston, Esquire and Ted Theodore Logan?
The news comes courtesy of co-star Alex Winter, who is also on board for another sequel and is clearly very enthusiastic about the project. He recently gave this update in response to a question on Twitter: “@antmaurizio: Bill & Ted 3, less than 6 weeks away and counting? Movie is gonna kick some ass. > Just got the script. And now to read…”. Although he did not mention who wrote the script, it was previously mentioned in interviews that original screenwriters Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon had an idea that they were running with. The premise for this new movie supposedly revolves around Bill and Ted having failed to write the song that saves the world, and becoming obsessed with that. Of course, there is an element of time travel involved as well.
On the one hand, the thought of another Bill & Ted movie seems ridiculous, and far below Keanu Reeves’ salary expectations. However, his career hasn’t really been on fire lately, and he still seems to have a sense of humour, so maybe it’s not out of the question after all. I’m just not sure I can see any studios out there being willing to greenlight such a thing. What do you think, could a third Bill and Ted movie actually be worth making, or would it be just an ironic and gimmicky blast of nostalgia, doomed to box office failure? Wyld Stallyns rule!

Posted by MNSTRFCKR on April 26th, 2011Let me guess: the script involves Bill & Ted and their respective children (last seen as infants at the end of Bogus Journey) and a wacky plot the involves protecting their futures and the future of humanity. Time travel and hilarity ensue. George Carlin makes a posthumous appearance through the magic of CGI.
