Top Gun Comes Back to Theatres for Two Days Only

What I’m about to tell you is classified… it could even end my career. In celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Tony Scott’s blockbuster, Maverick, Iceman, Goose and all the other hot shot pilots from Top Gun school at NAS Miramar are flying back to the big screen again. Paramount is teaming up with AMC in order to bring a digitally remastered print of Top Gun to select theatres for two special screenings at the end of the month. This will be followed up with a brand new 25th Anniversary edition Blu-ray in stores soon afterward. Are you feeling the need for speed? Hit the jump to get full details on where and when you can revisit this classic ’80s action flick.
It’s definitely nice to see theatrical re-releases becoming a regular part of the proceedings whenever studios want to dip into their back catalogue and capitalize on an anniversary. In recent years we’ve seen movies like Back to the Future, The Wizard of Oz, Poltergeist and A Nightmare on Elm Street return to multiplexes for a limited time as well. Paramount is taking it a step further by offering a “theatre-sized commemorative poster” to moviegoers while supplies last. Could they also be using this event to help gauge interest in the rumoured Top Gun sequel? Hey, you never know.
The dates for the screenings are Saturday, April 30 at 12:30pm and Monday, May 2 at 7:00pm. For a full list of the participating AMC Theatres, head over to the AMC Website, and for info on the 25th Anniversary Blu-ray release check out The HD Room. Do you plan on grabbing a wingman and checking out Top Gun on the big screen?
