Stake Land Trailer

If you happen to be a horror fan who’s not quite sick of vampires yet, you’ll definitely want to check out this new trailer for Jim Mickle’s Stake Land. From the director of Mulberry Street, the movie built up some strong buzz at TIFF last year, where it also won the Midnight Madness Audience Award. Now IFC Midnight will release it this month in select theatres and on VOD.
Although plagues and epidemics have typically been associated with zombie flicks, Stake Land takes us inside an American vampire apocalypse instead. The movie seems to resemble The Road but with bloodsuckers roving the countryside. A young boy loses his family and is taken under the wing of a vampire hunter known only as Mister. What do you think, can a movie like Stake Land make us forget all about Twilight? Look for it on April 22nd; check out the trailer after the jump and watch a couple of “character prequels” over at Apple.com.

Looks like 30 Days of Night meets, The Road.

Now I know…
Posted by Derek McFarland on April 15th, 2011Looks decent considering the tired subject matter. I’ve been pretty done with indie horror for the last couple of years as the ‘8 Films to Die For’ series really sucked all the fun out for me but Mulberry St. wasn’t bad so I’ll probably give this one a chance.
Posted by Fatbologna on April 15th, 2011This film is fucking aces. One of the best that I saw last year. Top Gun chick looks rough though.
Posted by swarez on April 15th, 2011That looks cool. If the movie is anything like the Road, which I loved, I’ll see it. Looks like it’s got potential!
Posted by 1138sw on April 15th, 2011Now, I guess I’m a bit dyslexic because I glanced at the title a couple times and read it as “Skate Land.” So I was just waiting for the roller rink scene, or the trip to the skate park. Or maybe another skateboarding documentary. But no, it was vampires…

#1 Kely McGillis F* yeah.
Posted by djangoscud on April 15th, 2011#2 Danielle Harris has been a scream queen and horror veteran since age 10.
#3 Mulberry Street was worth a slight pass. it was mired in the typical horror cliche’s but had it’s moments here and there.Still an “if you have the time” viewing though.
#4 CINEMATOGRAPHY. Fuck mumblecore, Blair Witch, bullshit. THIS IS THE CINEMA. A visual medium. Make the visuals count. The DOF they use on the digital cameras and the unique zombipire amalgamation aspect of the story ( a la Guerrmo Del Toro’s “the Strain”) shows us that they care and are desperately trying to avoid cliche’ and breathe life into the only genre that makes money and in return gets investors interested.
