Paul W.S. Anderson’s The Three Musketeers Trailer

Looking forward to a new swashbuckling action-adventure film that isn’t a Pirates of the Caribbean movie? Me too. Unfortunately, this one is directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, so I don’t have particularly high hopes for it. Yes, we’ve seen The Three Musketeers story on screen a million times before, but this is the first time it has been done in 3-D. While that might sound intriguing, what it actually translates to is a lot of fake-looking CG swords flying out of the screen and into your face.
I do like the cast for the most part. The Musketeers themselves are played by Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans and Matthew Macfadyen, with Logan Lerman playing young D’Artagnan. Mads Mikkelsen, Christoph Waltz, Orlando Bloom and Milla Jovovich also have supporting roles. What I’m not so thrilled about is seeing the same tired bullet time action sequences transplanted from the Resident Evil series to a period setting instead. What do you think, is this headed for disaster or could it actually be good? The Three Musketeers hits theatres on October 14th; check out the first trailer in HD over at Apple.com or watch an embedded version after the jump.

FYI Hollywood: Saying that your movie was “shot in 3D” is no longer a selling point. I’m not even sure it ever was.

Posted by Chris on March 26th, 2011Because of Avatar, they think saying “Shot in 3D” is the selling point. It just makes me roll my eyes even harder. Their starting to hurt a bit with all these new trailers.
Posted by Dave on March 26th, 2011Big dissapointment. I was expecting more than just a Resident Evil put into a period setting. Yuck.
Posted by Kasper on March 26th, 2011Gross. A poor attempt at Steampunk in a time period where it has no relevance. Awesome. You win again, unoriginality!
