Captain America: The First Avenger Theatrical Trailer

Here we go… the full theatrical trailer for Captain America: The First Avenger has arrived, and after seeing all the little clips and sneak previews leading up to it, there really aren’t many surprises left to be had. That being said, I still think it looks pretty solid. There is quite a lengthy pre-amble focusing on the wussy version of Steve Rogers prior to him becoming Captain America, and although the skinny Chris Evans looks somewhat bizarre, I think it works, and overall, I’m sold on him in the lead role.
There isn’t a ton of new action showcased in this trailer, but that is probably a good thing because it means they aren’t spoiling too much for us. I do like the fact that there is more focus on raw fisticuffs and Indiana Jones-style action, and I definitely think Joe Johnston is proving himself to be a great choice to direct. On the other hand, there’s one shot in particular that seems to be using Zack Snyder’s patented speed ramping technique, but I can’t tell if that’s just for the trailer or if that is how it will be in the movie. What do you think? Captain America: The First Avenger hits theatres on July 22nd; check out the theatrical trailer after the jump.

I can’t get over how disgustingly roided out Evans’ body is.
Posted by Captain N on March 23rd, 2011Evans looks like he’s been Benjamin Buttoned at the beginning. Seriously, though, did they use a 12 year old as his body double? I know pre-Super Soldier formula Steve Rogers was supposed to be scrawny, but I don’t think he was prepubescent! Could have made him a little taller at least.
Posted by Brendan on March 23rd, 2011I HATE the treatment of the scrawny Rogers. I really hope they get through this part fast. And not because of any strong feelings towards Cap, I’m barely familiar with the comic, it just looks and sounds awful.
AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL ADR
Posted by Goon on March 23rd, 2011I loved it! This trailer got me excited to see the movie. Also, I think Chis Evans looks fine as scrawny Steve Rogers. I’ve seen a few guys with the same proportions so it’s pretty spot on.
Posted by Marc on March 23rd, 2011Yeah, this looks way better than I was expecting. I haven’t really had any interest in seeing this until now. I never in a million years would have expected they’d make a proper WW2 Cap film when I was a kid but it seems they may have actually done it here.
Posted by Fatbologna on March 23rd, 2011I like the trailer a lot.
Posted by Gil on March 23rd, 2011My ONLY problem with the trailer is the part in the lab when he turns into the Captain and that weird asshole in the lab turns and takes his shades off while checking Captain out like he wants to such his cock off.
Trailer looks a whole lot more interesting than The Green Lantern. I’m down for checkin it out.

Posted by 1138sw on March 24th, 2011No one caught that it was “Mr Stark” that threw the switch of the enhancement chamber?
Posted by ButtonMan88 on March 24th, 2011MAN THIS LOOKS AWESOME. although the trailer spoils a bit too much for me. But man, I am glad I did watch it.. This movie nails it! Can’t wait.
TAKE MY MONEY. I wanna see it now!
Posted by Faggymcbitchtits on March 24th, 2011ps. Thank God Evans did Steroids, At least an action hero in the movies I can relate to.
Posted by Faggymcbitchtits on March 24th, 2011I saw the trailer last night when I got home and I thought it was pretty good. They had to make pre-Super Soldier Steve Rogers extra wimpy to emphasize his transformation into Mr. Macho AFTER the Super Soldier project, that’s the whole point of his origin story.
If he had been kicking ass and taking names ever since birth there would be no point to the story, he would have just joined the army like any other tough guy without any issues or problems and we wouldn’t have a movie, or a comic book, for that matter.
I like what they did with Tim Roth in the Incredible Hulk movie to kind of show that he was physically “enhanced”, so I am expecting that kind of thing in this movie. He’ll be faster, stronger, have more stamina, that type of thing.
Frankly, as long as this movie isn’t a complete disaster I will be happy, because I have definitely had my doubts over the years as to if anyone could pull off even a halfway decent Captain America movie.
This is kind of easier then some comic book movies, because in many ways his powers are grounded in reality. There are concrete ways to demonstrate that a person is faster or stronger then average, versus your more exotic super powers and abilities.
I’m still more excited about Thor. That’s the movie that’s going to be a challenge to get people to accept and get into. You have to imagine this guy from a realm of Gods that gets banished to Earth for being arrogant and disrespectful. We have to believe that he can command thunder and wield this magical hammer and all this other stuff. The trailer for that looks good, so we’ll see.
