Morgan Spurlock’s The Greatest Movie Ever Sold Trailer

Regardless of whether or not you liked Morgan Spurlock’s Super Size Me, you have to admit that his last documentary Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden? was a total misfire. He sold the entire movie on the claim that he was actually going to try and track down the Taliban leader in Afghanistan, when in reality all he delivered was a lighthearted look at the differences between American and Middle Eastern culture. It was false advertising, plain and simple, but it did prove one thing: Morgan Spurlock is very good at inventing clever gimmicks to help him stand out in a crowd… which brings us to his latest film, The Greatest Movie Ever Sold.

His idea this time around was to make a movie about advertising that is funded entirely by corporate sponsorship; in other words, he would shamelessly sell out, strictly for the purposes of capturing the entire process on film. And if you’ve seen posters for the movie, it looks like he has succeeded. The official title of the movie is POM Wonderful Presents The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, because it really is sponsored by POM (among others). I have to admit, it seems like a very fitting subject for him to tackle, and I’m curious to see if there is a thoughtful lesson to be learned from it all. The movie hits select theatres on April 22nd; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

  1. great movies about funding the movie – blah!

if he was really creative he would do a doc on trying to get a movie green-lit with “no names”, “D list”, and “A list” actors and explore that. But no, that would actually require him to write/acquirer a decent story.

  2. Very interesting. To put it simply in one word: SOLD! =P

  3. im starting to like Morgan as a doc filmmaker than Michael Moore and those are huge shoes to fill. i am really interested in this flick.

  4. I’m Sold on this too

  5. I don’t hate Morgan Spurlock, but I’m annoyed by how self-congratulatory he is about this idea in the trailer. It’s not the best idea in the world…

  6. Looking good. Definetly checking this out!

  7. Hey that’s me! I’m in advertising and I sell stuff everyday even if it doesn’t work! But I gotta sell it to you guys and make you believe it’s the gift from the gods!! LOL

Looks funny but uninformative to me. But I like Morgan and his last two flicks so I would give this a chance.

  8. Meh.

    But I’ll see it.

  9. Why this guy is even famous?

  10. I could imagine this guy when he came up with this idea, ” im so fucking clever im gonna restate the obvious like i did with supersize me, im a genius” *douche grin*. I get it we are constantly bombarded by advertising, do you have to make a documentary on it? Apparently so.

  11. I don’t understand all the hate for this guy. He is out there making a living and it looks like having a good time doing it. No one on this site is in Guantanamo, being forced to watch his stuff. People are asking why is he making movies…well 6 out of 10 people that have responded plan on seeing this movie, that’s why. Stop the Hating.
