Conan the Barbarian Teaser Trailer

There’s been a lot of apprehension surrounding the upcoming Conan the Barbarian reboot, from the hiring of Marcus Nispel (Pathfinder) as director to the casting of Jason Momoa (Baywatch, Stargate: Atlantis) in the lead role. When early set pics leaked online, many people questioned whether he could adequately fill the boots of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Now that Arnold is no longer in office and is preparing for his own big screen comeback, fans are going to look on remakes and reboots of franchises that he starred in with an even more critical eye.
It’s unfortunate, then, that this first teaser trailer for Conan the Barbarian is so terrible. Granted, it shows only brief glimpses of action and isn’t necessarily a great indicator of what we can expect from the film. But as a piece of marketing, it is a huge misfire. I honestly thought it was an online parody of some sort when I first heard the voiceover. The “obscured by fire” look that they are attempting might have sounded good on paper, but it just looks bad, not to mention the overbearing music and the hokey lines of dialogue. Yeah, I think this is exactly what we were all afraid of. Conan the Barbarian hits theatres on August 19th; check out the teaser trailer after the jump and see what you think.

The voice doing the trailer sounded like a joke voice. Like someone going deeper then their register will allow and saying “In a world”. Woosh.
Posted by Jurassicalien on March 11th, 2011It looks like they are hiding something instead of showing what the movie will look like.
Posted by Big Hungry on March 11th, 2011The video superimposed over the smoke effects does look crappy, but I am surprised to find the logo to look almost identical to what was used in the older Conan the Barbarian movies. I am hoping the new one is at least better than the Kull the Conqueror movie starring Kevin Sorbo from the late 1990’s! The actor playing the new Conan the Barbarian has a nice look, at least.
Posted by Uncle Milkshake on March 11th, 2011Fuck, I hope this ends up being a pleasant surprise because right now my expectations are low.
Posted by Fatbologna on March 11th, 2011LMAO!!! that looks like a straight to video teaser! Man I had hopes for this pic but it looks really cheesy! Man after last summer’s disasters I was hoping for a comeback…but this movie! oh man LMAO!!!
Posted by 1138sw on March 11th, 2011weak sauce.
Posted by rjdelight on March 11th, 2011looks like this will be a pile of shit.
Posted by MikeH on March 11th, 2011ugh.. thats disappointing even though I didn’t have high hopes. What sucks is that after this fails studios will use it to say that people aren’t interested in Conan movies.
Posted by Niklas on March 12th, 2011Wow, this trailer should have been rejected.
Posted by berserker01 on March 12th, 2011This trailer looks like some college kid put together on his macbook pro.
How does this trailer excite anyone? Some of these summer blockbuster trailers are lackluster.
Posted by Matt on March 12th, 2011It can’t be any worse than Schwarzenegger’s Conan.
Posted by Captain N on March 12th, 2011Pearly whites and emo eye shadow. Classy.
Posted by swarez on March 12th, 2011What a pile of SHIT
Posted by kyri on March 12th, 2011I understand that it’s a teaser…but that is very uninspiring.
Posted by Greg on March 12th, 2011I’m down with this. Looks like it unapologetically embraces its own OTT ridiculousness, which is the only way to go with nonsense like this.
Posted by DavidM on March 12th, 2011I don’t think it embraces anything David. It’s an unaware pile of shit.
Posted by kyri on March 12th, 2011Ever since I saw the first picture of the new actor I felt he was WRONG for the role. His face is weird and he cannot act…. This teaser proves me right.
Horrid pile of crap this film will be.
Posted by Chris Harvey on March 12th, 2011Captain N – “It can’t be any worse than Schwarzenegger’s Conan.”
Oh, it definitely can. Arnolds Conan movies were awesome.
Posted by patrik on March 13th, 2011Patrik – You are right, Arnold’s Conan movies were awesome and both so different from each other.
Posted by Big Hungry on March 13th, 2011Gotta tell ya, I’m pretty unimpressed with the Conan disrespect here. I’m not really looking forward to the new film but I definitely consider the Millius/Arney film one of the best of it’s kind and the original character was the inspiration for pretty much every single fantasy creation after it. If it weren’t for Robert E. Howard and his original stories fantasy fiction wouldn’t exist. Those stories predate the fucking Lord of the Rings by a good 20 years!
Posted by Fatbologna on March 13th, 2011Barbarians have come along way. Hopefully, the new Conan is like this crazy dude! -https://comics.comixology.com/#/series/5516
Posted by Scott on March 13th, 2011The voice over did not sound like a parody nor was the trailer terrible. It was mediocre. I like how the selected scenes were shown through smoke, which is certainly something I’ve never seen in a movie trailer. However, the trailer is not a good indicator of what the movie will be about.
Posted by Alexandra on March 13th, 2011Is this a Twilight movie ?
Posted by Yasser Serious on March 14th, 2011That is no Arnold. The only reason the Conan movies were successful was because of Arnold, and his body. This looks rediculous.
Posted by clambake on March 14th, 2011What the hell is this? If this was for a video game, then it is adequate somewhat…if this is how you are going to reintroduce the character to a new audience then, as the ole ECW audience used to say, “you fucked up!”
Posted by Steve Kasan on March 15th, 2011HAHA What a load of shit this is going to be. Conan looks like some glam rock fag. Hope they have the obligatory super intelligent black guy side kick, and the strong intelligent woman ‘love interest’ (nothing is more attractive to a man than an angry bull dyke, am I right or am I right?)! LOL. Hollywood’s smarmy ass jews couldn’t identify what people want if it was written in 40 foot tall neon letters.
Posted by Squibber McGee on March 16th, 2011Conan is a comic book character that is difficult to translate to the big screen without it seeming ludicruous.
even Arnie’s version was p**s poor so why be so hard on the new guy who at least looks the part.
