Arthur Trailer Starring Russell Brand

After breaking into the U.S. with his role as rock star Aldous Snow in both Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek (not to mention his marriage to Katy Perry), British comedian Russell Brand is now poised for stardom this year with headlining roles in two Hollywood movies that are being released in back-to-back weeks. The first is an animated film called Hop, in which he voices the Easter Bunny (check out the trailer here), and the second is a remake of the 1981 comedy Arthur.

The original Arthur starred Dudley Moore as a millionaire playboy who clashes with his rich family when he skips out on a pre-arranged marriage, putting his inheritance at risk. Although the remake isn’t really something I was paying much attention to, the first trailer now has me pretty interested. The casting of Brand as a privileged man-child who refuses to grow up is perfect for obvious reasons, and the script by Peter Baynham (Borat) actually seems pretty clever. With a supporting cast that includes Helen Mirren, Greta Gerwig, Jennifer Garner, Nick Nolte, and Luis Guzmán, the movie has a lot going for it. The only unfortunate thing is that Arthur hits theatres on April 8th, which puts it head to head with David Gordon Green’s Your Highness. Can Russell Brand succeed outside of a Judd Apatow production? Check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

  1. I loved Arthur and Arthur 2: On the Rocks growing up. This looks promising.

  2. oh, the neeples and the horror..

  3. Also the nipples.

  4. I suppose it could be OK for what it is, but I associate Arthur with Dudley Moore and the time period too much to want to see a remake.
I’ve also never liked Jennifer Garner in anything I’ve seen her in, so that’s a big negative for me too.
And, no Christopher Cross singing “Best That You Can Do?” Immediate fail!

  5. Looks like Russell Brand is doing his best Johnny Depp impression.

  6. Looks awesome!

  7. Jeez that was not funny or they’re just trying way to hard…loved the original film hope this does not embarrass the original…
