Nice. These show should be twice a month. I’ve been waiting for this since the last one ended.
Posted by Andrew James on September 10th, 2010Glad that this got posted, but mad that I have to wait until I get home to listen!
Posted by bard on September 10th, 2010I like this Frank guy. He amuses me.
Posted by Chris on September 10th, 2010Not really keen on the complete setlist, but if I had to pick Top 5 Rock Band songs I’m looking forward to:
1) Phish – “Llama”
2) Queen – “Bohemian Rhapsody”
3) The White Stripes – “The Hardest Button to Button”
4) The Flaming Lips – “Yoshimi”
5) Elton John – “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting”
5 HON MENTIONS:
Posted by Andrew James on September 10th, 2010The J. Geils Band – “Centerfold”
Jane’s Addiction – “Been Caught Stealing”
Night Ranger – “Sister Christian”
Tears for Fears – “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”
The Beach Boys – “Good Vibrations (live)” – would be NUMBER ONE if it was the studio version.
Sweet!
Posted by rjdelight on September 10th, 2010In regards to games that are hard, Sean touched on it for a second, but God of War III is a perfect example. A few of those boss fights I had to do over like 15 times. But each time I try something new and figure out better techniques and get a little further each time. It’s frustrating, but it’s the fun kind of frustrating. If I’m just doing the same thing over and over and over and never get anywhere, I just get pissed and quit – then maybe pick it up again in a month or two (or cheat).
Posted by Andrew James on September 10th, 2010No Starcraft 2 talk? :O I thought you guys were gonna play it… Very, very disappointed.
Posted by Henrik on September 10th, 2010Great episode, and Andrew was a pleasant surprise. I don’t know though if I can handle hearing Frank once a month, he might have to become a permanent fourth chair on the FJ podcast.
Posted by rjdelight on September 10th, 2010Great work Sean. The only thing missing are the hilarious jingles. Maybe a super mix of Frank shouting “Hot Button!” could suffice for that segment.
Posted by Juan Costrada on September 10th, 2010Apart from my initial disappointment, this show was totally awesome.
The Streets of Rage 2 girl is called Blaze. I never considered if she was a tranny though, I never noticed any adams apples. There is a pretty androgynous character in the game called Shiva though…
Posted by Henrik on September 11th, 2010Oh, and the reason Max is obviously the best character, is because he deals the most damage. If you play as any other character, you just end up having to mash the buttons slightly more to deal with the enemies, which seems unnecessary. Although all of them have sweet moves, once you’re at your 20th or 30th playthrough, you wanna be able to just go on that cruise control and DOMINATE.
Posted by Henrik on September 11th, 2010Starcraft 2 is a really mixed bag. The single player aspects of the game are laughably bad for anyone who has either basic RTS macro mechanics or any prior knowledge of competitive SC:BW. Most achievements are either abuseable or require relentless amounts of 1v1 multiplayer mass-gaming (which then the game becomes an entirely different beast).
The campaign has fun individual missions but the overall storyline is terrible. Without zerg and protoss storylines operating separately from the terran one, Blizzard has really come short with their tired old fallen hero storyline. The mood of the campaign reminds me of Iron Man 2 – there was no content asides events that built up to the next chapter.
While I generally like Starcraft 2, the game embodies two things I recall people on this site find unbearable: high multiplayer learning curb that depends lots of effort and time and bad adaptation of cliched film troupes.
Posted by alechs on September 11th, 2010All your points are valid, but the gameplay in my opinion is more or less unparalleled. The campaign was extremely disappointing, but as a competitive game, and as an RTS, I think it’s easily, EASILY the best on the market.
Posted by Henrik on September 11th, 2010I am in agreement with you, Henrik. I guess my primary concerns are extreme nitpicks that have more to do with what I saw/heard/read during SC2′s beta testing and the endless SC:BW to SC2 comparisons.
Posted by alechs on September 11th, 2010Excellent episode! I’ve liked Franks style ever since he first appeared on Film Junk back in the day, so it’s sweet that he’ll now get aired once a month more or less.
Posted by Kasper on September 11th, 2010I still waiting for a FAQ Hags segment, or at least rename viewer mail to that.
Posted by Matt Gamble on September 11th, 2010Man, I’ve been listening to this show for 3 days in a now and I cannot understand a shit of what you are talking about.. Tomb Raider is called Lara Croft and the Order of the Phoenix nowadays?
Posted by kyri on September 11th, 2010Another fantastic episode. I don’t even play sports game and I found your NHL talk to be so damn interesting. Keep up the great work. Oh and I can’t wait for your Metroid spotlight next ep.
BTW, I’m thinking of getting into game programming after I finish high school and I want to get a head start. What program/programs would you suggest me learning?
Posted by Suda 16 on September 13th, 2010This might be a good question to answer on the next episode, but the short answer is to learn C++ and 3D math.
Posted by Sean on September 13th, 2010Thanks. Very very much appreciated.
Posted by Suda 16 on September 13th, 2010Also if you want to learn useful stuff about the business, listen to the Blizzcast and Bungie podcast. Awesome stuff.. Really enjoying Gamejunk, would like it more than once a month but I realise it takes time to finish games and I guess Sean is pretty busy as well. I wouldn´t mind Frank in FJ more often as well.
Posted by pcch7 on September 14th, 2010FRANK! FRANK! FRANK!
Posted by Marty on September 26th, 2010Great work guys! I want the next one.
