Twilight Spin-Off Movie in the Works?

Just when you thought you were almost done with glittering vampires and hunky werewolves, the Twilight saga goes and gets a little bit longer. As you may know, the final Twilight book, Breaking Dawn, is in the process of being turned into two movies right now, but if you thought the massive franchise would end there, you’ve clearly been lying to yourself. Back in June, Stephenie Meyer released a new Twilight novella called The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner. Now rumours are swirling that this book will be adapted into a spin-off movie of its own. Considering that it was available to read online for free and still sold 700,000 copies in the U.S., is anyone really surprised at this news?

The character of Bree Tanner appears briefly in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. She is a 15-year-old girl who was turned into a vampire by Victoria, and is played by Jodelle Ferland in the movie. The spin-off would potentially feature someone new in the role, with What’s Playing speculating that Chloe Moretz (Let Me In, Kick-Ass) and Elle Fanning (Somewhere) are both distinct possibilities.

While I can’t say that the casting rumours sound all that reliable, I think it’s a safe bet that this adaptation will happen… and probably fairly soon, considering how fast they are moving through the rest of the Twilight books. A while back we heard that J.K. Rowling’s The Tales of Beedle the Bard was also being considered as a potential Harry Potter spin-off, and clearly these franchises are too valuable for studios to simply give up on. So does the thought of yet another Twilight movie fill you with rage, or could this actually be an interesting spin-off that gets away from Bella and her exhausting love triangle?
