Weekly Poll Results: Best John Hughes Movie

Last week’s epic poll pitted various John Hughes films against each other in a full blown ’80s battle royale. In the end, Film Junk’s readers voted Ferris Bueller’s Day Off to the top of the pile… a choice I don’t disagree with. The Breakfast Club was, however, a close second, followed by Home Alone, Planes, Trains and Automobiles and National Lampoon’s Vacation. I was a little surprised to see Pretty in Pink so far down at the bottom, but it might have something to do with our primarily male readership. What do you think, are these results about what you expected?
1. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off — 30.6%
2. The Breakfast Club — 26.5%
3. Home Alone — 12.7%
4. Planes, Trains and Automobiles — 10.3%
5. National Lampoon’s Vacation — 6.5%
6. Sixteen Candles — 5.2%
7. Weird Science — 3.4%
7. Uncle Buck — 3.4%
9. Some Kind of Wonderful — 1%
10. Pretty in Pink — 0.3%

I really love Career Opportunities too. I realize it couldn’t make the list, but Franky Whaley was great in that roll.
Hughes wrote it, but didn’t direct.
Posted by vacancyvideo on August 11th, 2010I agree with this list entirely. This is how I would rate them. Except I’d switch 9 and 10.
Posted by Itchy-finger on August 11th, 2010I agree with the list except for Home Alone being up so high.
Posted by Ben on August 11th, 2010wow so sorry i missed this poll! I LOVE Ferris. that movie will always hold a very special place with me. however, planes trains and autos is amazing as well. there are so many awesome film moments in that one. uncle buck is less known than those but also a pretty good one. i love how his car backfires and how he threatens the boyfriend with his hatchet in his trunk. aside from those bits though its just ok.
Posted by Gregory Hoffman on August 11th, 2010I’m a female and I voted for The Breakfast Club! I wouldn’t have ranked Pretty in Pink last, but definitely not above the others. And Weird Science is still awesome.

You have all embarrassed yourselves. All of you.
Posted by DavidM on August 11th, 2010Like all of them though I’d still put Breakfast Club at #1 and Ferris Bueller’s in second place.
Posted by Steve on August 11th, 2010We should do this poll again when everyone here grows up.
PTA is the balls!
Posted by Long Dong Silver on August 12th, 2010If you were a teenage boy when Ferris Bueller came out and you didn’t jerk off to Sloan (Mia Sara) at least once…you are not an American…or a Canadian.
