Yogi Bear Trailer Starring Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake

Well there’s no Alvin and the Chipmunks squeakquel planned for this upcoming holiday season, but we do have the next best thing: a Yogi Bear movie! And it looks like it will be a disaster on par with all the previous live action / CG hybrid train wrecks. Directed by Eric Brevig (Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D), the movie stars Tom Cavanagh as Ranger Smith, T.J. Miller as Ranger Jones, Nathan Corddry as the Chief of Staff, and Anna Faris as the attractive documentary filmmaker, Rachel, with Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake voicing Yogi and Boo-Boo respectively.
The first trailer for the movie has arrived online, and it looks every bit as painful as you’d expect it to. You’d think after all this time they’d be able to make these CG characters blend in a little more seamlessly, but they just stick out like a sore thumb. Horrible. The one thing I will say is that J.T. does a surprisingly good Boo-Boo. I’m also happy just to see Aykroyd getting work nowadays. Yogi Bear hits theatres on December 17th, will you be there to experience the magic? Check out the trailer after the jump.

Thank you sweet JESUS!!! I thought this day would never come. I can die a happy man.
Posted by Fatbologna on July 29th, 2010So, nobody in Hollywood learned anything from The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle? Those who cannot remember the past are… how does that go? I forget.
Posted by Stormy on July 29th, 2010Had to watch that just to hear Justin Timberlake’s Boo-Boo. Spoiler: It’s fair.
Posted by DPenn on July 29th, 2010A never knew a movie could be so good.
Posted by Billy Boyd Cape on July 29th, 2010Comment #2—They forgot what they had learned after “Alvin and the Chipmunks” made over 200 million, and since the sequel ALSO made over 200 million, we can expect studios to run the animation/live action well dry.
Aside from “Garfield” being terrible (to be fair though, it wasn’t a movie aimed at ME), my main problem was that they didn’t do a CG Odie. Odie has a very odd, distinctive look, and if Garfield wasn’t going to look the least bit realistic, I don’t know why Odie had to be a normal looking dog. They half-assed what was already a half-assed (making it quarter-assed?) movie.
Posted by PlanBFromOuterSpace on July 29th, 2010Oh, and also regarding Comment #2, I completely don’t understand why in the last decade, when Robert Deniro’s name is associated with a project you normally wouldn’t associate him with, people go “Oh my God, why would he do THAT?”. They seem to have forgotten (understandably so) that he did “Bullwinkle”. Rather than ask why he’s doing “Machete” or a 3rd “Meet the Parents”, they should be saying “Well, at least it isn’t ‘Bullwinkle’”.
Posted by PlanBFromOuterSpace on July 29th, 2010I don’t know if I should rip my eyes out or learn to love it.
Posted by Matt on July 29th, 2010A person should never have to learn to love ripping his eyes out. Hmmmm, I think I misread that…
Posted by PlanBFromOuterSpace on July 29th, 2010This trailer has “Oscar-Bait” written all over it.
Posted by Senor G on July 29th, 2010Well, to be honest, after the “modernized” crap that has been Alvin and the Chipmunks, Marmaduke and the soon to come “modernized” turd that is Smurfs, I’m actually happy to see something like this stay true to the source.
Posted by Ben on July 29th, 2010i think the CGI Scooby in the Scooby-Doo films blended in better with live-action than this piece of shit! just horrible.
Posted by Napalm on July 29th, 2010They really must have had a bigger budget than they knew what to do with if they wasted the casting budget on Dan Aykroyd and JT. This looks insane
Posted by Jonny Ashley on July 29th, 2010Wow….I had no idea… I loved the cartoon….
Posted by Sam on July 30th, 2010Honestly this movie looks like it might be a fun, JT does a scarily good Boo Boo so I might go see it cos I do like these CGI & Live Action movies a lot more than I should… though not the 3D one, will the 3D fad please go die in a ditch now?
