Adam McKay and Will Ferrell Contemplating Step Brothers 2?

Well we’ve all heard the sad news that Anchorman 2 is probably not happening since Paramount passed on it and Adam McKay and Will Ferrell don’t have the ability to shop it around to any other studios. The sticking point seems to be the proposed $70 million budget, which is not really that much considering all of the stars involved, but alas it seems like it was probably not meant to be. I’m still not sure how it would have worked if they really did make it a musical, but it looks like McKay and Ferrell are already setting their sights on another possible sequel. Step Brothers 2, perhaps?

In a recent interview with Cinema Blend, Adam McKay confirmed the death of Anchorman 2:

“It’s not happening, for sure, one-hundred percent. I’ll put it to bed. The only way it could come back [would be] in two years, three years, but to line everyone’s schedule up and to get everything done, and when it fell apart, to put that back together again your still talking about waiting. If I go do The Boys, that’s another two years, year and a half. You don’t know what people are doing when I get done with that. It’s a lot of work to line it up. That was why, no hard feelings against Paramount, we were doing many cool projects over there, but that’s why when it didn’t quite work out with the numbers it was like “that’s it.” You can’t wait for that or be in a holding pattern. But, oh well. Maybe it’s for the best. You don’t need sequels for everything. It was such a great experience doing that, but let it stand.”

He did, however, reveal that he would also really like to reteam Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, and that a sequel to Step Brothers is one of a few ideas being kicked around. McKay says: “As a viewer, I want to see them in eight or nine comedies together.” Hey, don’t we all? Sure, Step Brothers might not have the cult following that Anchorman has, but give it a few more years and it might be up there. Plus, it wouldn’t cost as much to make. What do you think, would you like to see a Step Brothers sequel or are those characters simply not worth revisiting?

  1. Just like anchorman 2 i cant see this working nearly as well as the original

  2. I didn’t like Step Brothers, so if this gets made and Anchorman 2 doesn’t, then that would suck.

  3. Step Brothers 2 sounds like more of an “apology” for not being able to get Anchorman 2 off the ground.

  4. Personally I loved Step Brothers, I thought I was going to hate it but I found myself enjoying the hell out of it. I’d welcome a sequel from the curly headed fucks.

  5. I liked Step Brothers a hell of a lot more than Anchorman. I’m not sure what they would do with it, though. It should probably just remain a one-off.

  6. Step Brothers suprised me by actually being good – not as good as Anchorman, but still a funny and quotable film, hell its worth watching purely for the ‘Boats N Hoes’ video they make! But i agree with the dude above, leave them as stand-alone films. They didnt make no sequel to Blazin Saddles did they?!

  7. i totally agree!!! (to this comment)
