Grindhouse Special Edition DVD Finally in the Works?

For a director as celebrated and famous as Quentin Tarantino, you’d think that each of his movies would have been repackaged and re-issued on DVD and Blu-ray a thousand times over by now. But the truth is, Tarantino is pretty picky about how his movies are released, and he seems to have earned the right to take the time to personally prepare special editions of each one at his own pace. Fans have been waiting for years to get a Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair combined cut, and after the theatrical disappointment of Grindhouse, both Tarantino’s Death Proof and Robert Rodriguez’s Planet Terror were given separate DVD releases, which pissed a lot of people off. Fortunately, it looks like a combined Grindhouse release may finally be in the works… that is, assuming director Edgar Wright can be considered a reliable source.
Wright, who directed one of the fake trailers that played with Grindhouse, offered this tantalizing update via Twitter yesterday:
“So, get this, tomorrow I am doing a commentary on ‘Don’t’. Some of you will know what that means is finally happening.”
While it’s pretty funny to think that each of the directors will only have about 60 seconds to rattle off as much information as they possibly can about their creations, this is certainly exciting news since the trailers were not included on either of the individual DVD releases thus far. I’m guessing this may be happening now in order to help promote the release of the Machete feature-length film in September, but that doesn’t give them much time to put it all together. Either way, if they can just offer something that’s half as cool as the Japanese DVD release of Grindhouse, I think we’ll all be very pleased.

There’s no doubt Tarantino wants to put this turd behind him.

YOU’RE a turd.
Also, you know nothing and are a man(child?).
Posted by Fatbologna on July 6th, 2010if there ever was a film that you dont need on Bluray, this is it.
Posted by Mike on July 6th, 2010Why the hate? Both these movies are great and I can’t wait to get the Blu-Ray of the original cut.
Posted by Film Ape on July 6th, 2010I would argue you don’t “need” a Blu-Ray of Grindhouse because the movies were intentionally made to look aged, faded and low-quality. But if they use that tech to cram everything onto one disc, that’s cool.
Posted by Daniel on July 7th, 2010I got the Japanese SE already, both cuts and plenty of extras.
Posted by swarez on July 7th, 2010That Japanese set is awesome. I’m thinking of hunting around for a used/ebay/etc. copy. I regret not picking it up at the time. I have the bare-bones ‘full length’ R1 releases of DP and PT.
Posted by Kurt on July 7th, 2010This is why I waited to get these on Blu-Ray
Posted by Big Hungry on July 7th, 2010oh i wasn’t hating, i love these movies, just making a point about the grit…in fact, i’m still going to get the bluray just for that awesome packaging, if it comes with it.
Posted by Mike on July 7th, 2010I don´t get why people hated Death Proof either.. It´s not exactly his best movie but it´s still good. Now just give me the Complete Kill Bill experience.
Posted by pcch7 on July 7th, 2010who hates Death Proof? leave them, they’re no good for you

I’ve never seen these movies, as I refused to watch them until they put them back together as they were in theater. Maybe I’ll finally rent this!
