Serbian Animated Sci-Fi Film Technotise to Get Big Screen Remake

I hadn’t heard of Technotise before I read the news last week about a possible Hollywood remake, but now that I have, I am convinced that it could actually be something pretty cool. Technotise is a comic created by Aleksa Gajic and Darko Grkinic that spawned an animated movie called Technotise: Edit & I. Set in the year 2074, the story centers on a university student who implants a stolen military chip in her brain to help her pass an exam, only to find that the chip gives her unexpected powers as it slowly takes over her mind. While it’s easy to look at some of the stills from the original film and assume this is a Japanese anime film, it is actually a Serbian creation. Now, according to Heat Vision, Legendary Pictures will be producing an American live action remake.

The story of how the Hollywood deal came about is pretty interesting. A couple of producers (Scott Glassgold and Raymond Brothers) picked up the rights to Technotise, and soon afterward noticed a fake Green Lantern trailer that was making the rounds on the internet. They decided to hire the creator of that trailer, Jaron Pitts, to create a fake trailer for a possible live action Technotise movie as well. It went viral, and based on the strength of the fake trailer, they were able to get screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis (Ghost in the Shell, Shutter Island, Avatar) on board, who pitched it to Legendary. The rest is history. Apparently viral videos are the new path to Hollywood success. What do you think, does this sound interesting? Check out the fake trailer and the trailer for Technotise: Edit & I below and see what you think.

That sickens me. So far, every viral I’ve seen that got the filmmaker some kind of mainstream deal wasn’t worth it’s salt in my book. I won’t be complaining if it happens to me though.

There is some blatant borrowing from Ghost in the Shell in the real trailer, The rest of it looks generic. However, there is one thing I’ve been wondering why we haven’t seen in the CGI-Era that I need: HOVERBOARDS.
