J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 Trailer Leaks Online, Viral Website Launches

Well I’ve been debating whether or not to post this, but I guess it doesn’t really matter at this point because everyone who wants to see it probably already has by now anyway. A bootleg version of the first trailer for J.J. Abrams’ secret upcoming film Super 8 has leaked online, and since Paramount doesn’t seem to be trying to pull it off YouTube, I can only assume that they don’t have a problem with people seeing it this way. Perhaps it is part of their viral marketing plan? Who knows.
I still have not watched it yet since I’ll wait to see it this weekend with Iron Man 2, so I can’t comment on it. The only thing I know is that this movie is a collaboration between J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg… take from that what you will. The movie’s official website has also launched (although it’s currently pretty sparse), and the initial clues for a viral campaign are already started to be pieced together over at Super 8 News. Check out the leaked trailer for Super 8 after the jump.

Posted by Big Hungry on May 7th, 2010I live in Ohio near wright pat, there were hoots and hollers in Iron man during this trailer.
Posted by The Man on May 7th, 2010Bummer it’s gone!! Any chance of someone digging it up??
Posted by 1138 on May 7th, 2010It’s still online btw. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkvKfmaVFJg
I dont know, I’m sick of JJ and his bullshit viral marketing campaigns. Cloverfield was ok, but really a waste of really good idea. Hopefully this will be better.
Posted by Rusty on May 8th, 2010Well Rust it’s not really viral marketing. It’s just a trailer that doesn’t tell you everything thats gonna happen in the movie. It’s like inception’s early trailers, I for one love that keep on keeping on JJ.
Posted by The Man on May 8th, 2010J.J. Abrams is a gimmick. Maybe spend more time on being a FILMMAKER and less time on shitty mystery trailers that NEVER pay off…
Posted by Daemon on May 8th, 2010I was one of the few who didn’t like JJ’s Star Trek. Hated it actually and considered really bad movie making. I never got saw MI3 and never got into Alias or Lost. I thought cloverfield was kinda cool but nothing amazing. I do like Fringe though and find that the series is improving and has improved a great deal from the first season.
Overall I’m kind of up and down with JJ. I don’t think he’s a genius but I do think his promotions are slick and his ideas are interesting but usually borrowed.
The trailer here looks cool but feels familiar like I’ve seen it before. Again this idea from JJ seems cool but, slick trailer, but at the same time also seems borrowed.
Posted by 1138 on May 8th, 2010that other thinga-ma-do, with the box was a lot cooler…anyone find out what that was all about?
Posted by rus in chicago on May 8th, 2010No way near as cool as the Cloverfield trailer but interesting nevertheless.
Posted by GORT on May 10th, 2010The reason why Paramount hasn’t pulled it is because the trailer contains a rabbit hole to a new ARG. It was *meant* to be closely scrutinized and the results can be found here:
