The Complete Metropolis Trailer

As we reported back in February, a newly restored version of Fritz Lang’s classic Metropolis premiered at Berlin International Film Festival and is headed back to theatres this year courtesy of the folks at Kino International. The new cut includes 25 minutes of additional footage that were discovered in a museum in Buenos Aires, making this the closest we’ll come to experiencing the film’s original form when it debuted back in 1927. It is presented with an adapted version of the original score by Gottfried Huppertz.

The Complete Metropolis made its North American debut yesterday at the Turner Classic Movies Classic Film Festival, and will expand to other theatres in the coming weeks. Kino recently released a trailer for the new cut of the film, showcasing some of the restored footage. The Complete Metropolis will also be released on DVD and Blu-ray in November. For more info on the restoration and upcoming screenings, stay tuned to the official website. Check out the trailer after the jump, or watch it in HD over at Apple.com.

  2. VERY excited!

  3. Living in Switzerland I was able to watch the world premiere of the “final” cut on TV ( on ARTE HD, live with orchestra)- it’s a very impressive masterpiece.
I certainly will be buying the BD. BTW: along with the new release there was a great and definite book published – not sure if it’s available in English yet – but I highly recommend it.

  4. is this coming to the UK?

as a 17 year old i have only heard of this film in legend and myth, i also researched it for a dystopia essay but never watched it
could anyone link me to the details of:
“making this the closest we’ll come to experiencing the film’s original form”

did they lose it or something?

  5. There was a lot of editing to it after it premiered. And all the other footage that was cut was lost. They just recently discovered a print that had all the old footage still intact.

  6. Badass! I hope it comes to Vancouver! If not I’ll just have to wait until the Blu comes out, but I’d love to see this in the theatre.
