Spy Kids 4 Coming in 3-D… with a Brand New Cast
Looks like Robert Rodriguez will once again continue his pattern of alternating between violent films for adults and goofy comedies for kids over the next couple of years, as Spy Kids 4 is currently being set up at Dimension Films with a potential release date of August 19th, 2011. Last year, Rodriguez released the family adventure film Shorts, and now this year he is producing Predators and co-directing Machete. Before that it was Planet Terror, preceded by The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D.
The last Spy Kids movie was Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, which was released back in 2003. Rodriguez was slightly ahead of the curve with the whole 3-D trend, so it only makes sense that Spy Kids 4 should also be a 3-D film. The full title is Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World, and Rodriguez himself has described it as a reboot of sorts, starring “different kids, not the old kids”. Considering that Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara are all growns up now, it’s probably a necessity at this point (especially after Sabara’s somewhat disturbing role in World’s Greatest Dad). Still, it begs the question, why even make it part 4? Why not just start over? Well, at least someone’s not afraid to let those numbers keep climbing. Any Spy Kids fans out there? Is Rodriguez wasting his time with these family-friendly flicks, or are they actually worthwhile?

I don’t get Rodriguez’s strategy, the kiddy movies must be making money, maybe not the last one though. The kid movies just seem so mediocre and are targeted at kids only. Pixar and Star Wars appeal to kids and adults, I think Rodriguez loses since his kid audience probably start to decline once a kid hit 8 years old, I can envision 8 years olds getting beat up by their peers for liking or watching one of Rodriguez’s kiddy films. Sure there’s a kid’s market, RR is just targeting the audience too narrowly.

Posted by deshawn on March 30th, 2010I think the true business question for analysis would be “how much less did Spy Kids 2 & 3 make than Spy Kids 1?” Because 2 and 3 were okay, but featured too much darkness and betrayal for me to show them to my kids repeatedly (and despite the adult themes, had little for adults); but I would consider Spy Kids 1 a perfect movie–as emotionally robust as Toy Story.

i always watch it.. because i have a dvd of it..

they will not include them..

I remember when i used to watch that movie in 5th grade. One of the best moments of my life. Those two were the bomb. And i kinda used to feel as if alexa i.e carmen was my big sister. Haha! So those two should definitely act and not some other kids. It’ll show a good continuation of the storyline,how more experienced they’ve become and will bring lots of memories not only to me but also to many fans out there. I was even thinking that the title ’spy kids 4 ever’ could be relevant to show that they will always be spy kids no matter how much they’ve grown. So in my opinion and maybe to other’s too, it would be a big mistake to leave alexa and daryl out of this. Oh and by the way, I CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!

You think.. it is a kid movie.. plus ALL kids till about 14 love his kids movies.. i mean my kids, neices friends and every kid ive ever met love his kid movies.. and cant wait for more. some people need to do more digging around before talking shit.. if his kid movies were flops, the movie companies would not release them over and over, plus Disney is a prt of this one.. they have wanted a Rdoriguez movie since El Mariachi.

I LOVE spy kids too. The movies were great wen i was younger. I think they should keep the old cast and just make it wen they grow up or something. and end the story that way. With Carmen and Juni all grown up and on thier own being spies.

Watching Carmen with her old brunette hair, and modifying Juni’s voice to his 11 year old voice would be awesome! XD Even if this was their last adventures, it would make a lot of fans (including me) so happy. I was just watching Spy Kids 1 tonight, and I just really am ExCiTeD about Spy Kids 4!!!
