Film Junk Poll: Which DC Comic Book Movie Do You Most Want to See Next?

One interesting tidbit to come out of ShoWest this week (courtesy of Collider) is the announcement from Warner Brothers that they plan to use their DC Comics properties to slowly replace the Harry Potter series as their next major tentpole franchise. Obviously we know that Green Lantern is currently in production right now, and new Superman and Batman movies are inevitable, but what about all of the other various DC heroes that have been rumoured to get their own movie over the past few years? We should be hearing more about many of them in the near future, but which one are you most excited to see on the big screen? Can they possibly hope to compete with the movie empire that Marvel has started? Cast your vote in this week’s poll, and then discuss the many other possibilities in the comments below.

Isn’t Lobo already in production or were the rights just picked up? If they make it as gritty as the comic seems to be I would be interested.
Posted by AJ on March 19th, 2010It’s in development. Guy Ritchie was supposed to direct, but then they said he would probably do Sherlock Holmes 2 instead.
Posted by Sean on March 19th, 2010I think that wonder woman and the flash are probably the most anticipated ones. Can see what the future holds!
Posted by Martin on March 19th, 2010PLastic Man or Shazam, but only if they make it funny, not serious and dark. If they can’t handle that, then I’ll pick Deadman because he looks cool and has a cool story.
Posted by KeithTalent on March 19th, 2010I wanted to vote for The Question because he was great in JLU but so was The Flash so that would be a fine movie, esspeically if they used the Danny Elfman “The Flash” theme from the CBS TV show with Dawson’s dad.
Posted by Ian on March 19th, 2010The Flash or Wonder Woman seems like the best choices.
Posted by Matt in Maine on March 19th, 2010I think the Flash would be the most obvious choice, but someone like Deadman or Shazam could be a lot of fun if done right. Booster Gold would be pretty awesome as well as an action comedy.
Its awesome you picked that Ed Benes JL cover for the picture, that was my laptop background for a long long time…yes I am a nerd.
Posted by Justice on March 19th, 2010Why havent I gotten a movie deal yet!? I am far funnier than Bats! Superman got his movie, but what about Wally West!? Noooooo sir! Apperently I am the slowest superhero alive to get a movie deal!
Posted by Wally West on March 19th, 2010I just realized how much DC sucks. All of these choices are awful. Wonder Woman maybe, if they use Joss Whedon’s story, but not one of these names get me excited.
Posted by Deven Science on March 19th, 2010Not to be too geeky, but the character’s name is actually “Captain Marvel,” not “Shazam.” I only mention it because all of the other potential hero movies in the poll are listed by the hero’s name. I suppose the title of the movie could likely be “Shazam,” since it’s more recognizable due to the 70s live action tv show. Plus, it may avoid confusion with the Marvel Comics heroes.
Posted by Brendan on March 19th, 2010Oh, and my pick is both “none of the above” and “all of the above.” They should make the also long rumored Justice League movie. Then they can spin off the characters into their own movies as warranted.
Posted by Brendan on March 19th, 2010deadman when he jumps into guys bodies and has his way with hot chicks.
Captain Marvel is the worst name, Shazam! is much better. Why is he called Capt. Marvel, not only have I never seen him be a captain of anything anywhere, but Marvel? Surely a joke. Make it Shazam! Shazam!
Posted by Henrik on March 19th, 2010One of the biggest issues facing the DC universe is that their tent pole characters aren’t as appealing as the Marvel characters, at least on film. What I mean by that is Marvel has a plethora of characters who seem to work better in the real world than say DC.
Just look at the List:
Daredevil
Spider man
Wolverine
Punisher
Iron Man
X-Men
Blade
I have a hard time envisioning Plasic man, Hawkman, or Aqua man working well in a Real world setting.
That said I picked Wonder woman. I think DC could give her the same treatment that is being done for Thor. They can set it up sort of like Clash of the Titans and bring her into modern day to fend off some new threat.
One of the biggest hurdles for Wonder woman and other DC characters is their costumes! They need to be able to rework them so that they don’t appear silly on screen.
Posted by Marc on March 19th, 2010I have no idea who any of these guys are except the Flash. So i chose Sgt. Rock because he has a cool name!
Posted by AdamH on March 20th, 2010Ist it weird if i haven’t heard about any of these heroes, or is the opposite thing weird?
Posted by Christopher on March 20th, 2010No option for No More Comic-Book Movies Ever Again?
Posted by DavidM on March 20th, 2010I would have voted “None”.. None of those are interesting
Posted by patrik on March 20th, 2010THE FLASH FTW!!!! Of course we want to see The Flash after The Green Lantern!??!?!?!?!?! WALLY FUCKING WEST!! Or Bart Allen, but still!!! The Flash would kick asssssssssssssz!
Posted by Gregor on March 20th, 2010I would love to see a CAPTAIN MARVEL (his name is NOT Shazam!) done correctly, which means seriously with a touch of whimsy. Hard to do I know.
He’d have to have his red costume, but they’ll want to put him in black leather I suppose. How original!
There was supposed to be a CM movie in pre-production a while back. The Rock was rumored to be a candidate to play him. What happened?
Posted by greenblade on March 21st, 2010For one of the greatest super-hero movies, see the 1940s CM serial!
Voted for Wonder Woman. It’ll be a good thing to see a FEMALE superhero for once!
Posted by Napalm on March 21st, 2010Aquaman. Only if it stars Vinnie Chase and is directed by James Cameron please.
