The Mechanic Trailer Starring Jason Statham and Ben Foster

Love him or hate him, you have to admit that Jason Statham is a pretty hard-working guy, stoically soldiering on from one bone-crunching action movie to the next. Right now he’s currently in the middle of filming The Mechanic, a remake of the 1972 Charles Bronson film of the same name. The story is about a hitman (Statham) who takes a young apprentice (Ben Foster) under his wing and teaches him the tools of the trade.
An early promo trailer for the film has popped up online this week, and although I usually add a bit of a disclaimer for these types of things, I don’t know that it necessarily applies in this case. When it comes to Millennium Films (the folks behind such movies as Rambo, Righteous Kill and Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans), if it looks cheap and sleazy, it will probably be exactly that — not that that is necessarily a bad thing. The tag line “From the director of Con-Air and Tomb Raider” doesn’t do much for me, but I do like Ben Foster and I think this could be a fun mindless action flick. I’m not sure how it will compare to the original, but take a look at the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

You’ve got to love the guy for revelling in his absolute plunge into typecasting.
Is love the right word?
Posted by Colin on March 17th, 2010Simon West would be big turn off for me. His work thus far has been mostly pretty images with no sense of storytelling whatsoever. And Statam, who can be okay in some roles, is no Bronson. However, the original is no masterpiece or anything, so why not?
Posted by Phil G on March 17th, 2010am a fun of Jason, …ok he can’t act.. but who gives a fuck about acting if he suits the role in a movie.. Just because Arnold cant act it doesn’t mean Total Recall its a bad movie. ..its all about the director.
Bank Job, Crank, lock stock and 2 smocking barrels, // i even liked revolver a little bit.. (i sure like it more than Rockenrolla and sherlocholmes)..
has anyone seen London?
is it good?
Posted by Kyriacos on March 17th, 2010There is something wrong with the promo poster for this movie. Statham is not holding a gun!

Well said. This movie could be okay but I doubt it’ll be any good. If it’s not Jean Reno and Natalie Portman then I don’t care.

Posted by kris on March 17th, 2010Although typecast Statham is awesome. But this kinda just seems messy. No pace and no clear outline of plot or progression.
Posted by Billy Boyd Cape on March 22nd, 2010Yes, London is worth a watch….Statham has some very strong scenes in it. So what if he’s typecast. We need that consistency in the world right now. That’s all I wanted from Arnold in the 80’s and 90’s. Who cares if it’s good or bad you see it because you enjoy it.
