Predators Sneak Peek from SXSW

All the lucky folks at SXSW in Austin this week are getting treated to first looks at some pretty cool movies (including Kick-Ass, which apparently was pretty packed). One movie that isn’t screening at SXSW but made an appearance anyway is Nimrod Antal’s Predators. Since producer Robert Rodriguez lives in Austin, it only made sense for him to premiere the very first footage from the film at the festival. Fortunately, for those of us who aren’t at SXSW, they have also put some of the footage online for all to see.
It’s not really a trailer per se, it’s more of a two-minute featurette that includes Rodriguez talking about the movie interspersed with some brief clips from the movie. There’s not really that much to say about it, but it’s definitely cool to see Laurence Fishburne and Adrien Brody on screen. It seems like it should live up to the Predator name… at least more than the AvP series did. Check out the sneak peek after the jump, and for more info stay tuned to the official website. Predators hits theatres on July 9th.

What’s on the website isn’t the same as what they showed at SXSW.
Posted by swarez on March 13th, 2010I really like the direction that Rodriquez seems to be going with this. Check out my blog for a few screenshots of things you may have missed.

Posted by trailerguy on March 13th, 2010swarez: I was wondering about that. I wasn’t sure if it was a Q&A followed by a quick sneak peek or what, but it makes sense that the whole event would be longer than 2 minutes.
Posted by Sean on March 13th, 2010I was sort of excited before, now I am very excited.
Posted by Itchy-Finger on March 13th, 2010Isn’t it so weird how insanely popular the Predator is, how man films they keep trying to make about them and have them do well – yet only the first one and partially the second hold any value for anyone. Either way, this looks so cool. Adrien Brody is the man.
Posted by Nick Robertson on March 13th, 2010This looks REALLY GOOD. Nods to the original, going forth in its own direction. It looks like this is finally Nimrod Antals big chance to capitalize, in a Hollywood Studio fashion, on the kinetics and ensemble style of KONTROLL. Yum. Yum.
Posted by Kurt on March 13th, 2010Yeah, this looks really great. I think the Alien AND The Predator are both strong creatures/villains apart from each other. It’s when you try to combine them that things fall apart(besides some of the comics.)
Posted by Fatbologna on March 13th, 2010Looks pretty cool thus far. I can’t wait to see some more.
By the way does this take place on earth or some other planet?
Posted by Marc on March 14th, 2010looks good to me. i have faith in Rodriguez.
Posted by Napalm on March 14th, 2010Makes me want to forget about AvP. Wait a minute, isn’t that the name of the beach volleyball league? Anyway, there were some intriguing shots in there. Also it says on the site that the formal trailer is forthcoming on 3/18. Rodriguez teased that there would be two Predator, uh, species I guess. The more original one (with updated facial jaws/fangs), and something that looks almost like a four-legged version (from the maquette that was shown).
Posted by Maopheus on March 14th, 2010It does look very promising
Posted by patrik on March 14th, 2010I’ll definitely check this one out.
