New Full Trailer for Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood

A new full trailer for director Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood has appeared online, starring the gifted (but brash) Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett. The film takes the form of Gladiator set in a 13th century universe, with even the same actor playing the protagonist. However, although the two films are strikingly similar, there’s a Braveheart-esque feel to this that I particularly find exciting. The trailer itself is marvelous. Co-starring Matthew Macfadyen, William Hurt, Oscar Isaac Mark Strong, Lea Seydoux, Scott Grimes, Alan Doyle, Kevin Durand, Danny Huston, and Max von Sydow, this action-adventure is slated for release on May 14th.
“Robin Hood chronicles the life of an expert archer, previously interested only in self-preservation, from his service in King Richard’s army against the French. Upon Richard’s death, Robin travels to Nottingham, a town suffering from the corruption of a despotic sheriff and crippling taxation, where he falls for the spirited widow Lady Marion, a woman skeptical of the identity and motivations of this crusader from the forest. Hoping to earn the hand of Maid Marion and salvage the village, Robin assembles a gang whose lethal mercenary skills are matched only by its appetite for life. Together, they begin preying on the indulgent upper class to correct injustices under the sheriff.
With their country weakened from decades of war, embattled from the ineffective rule of the new king and vulnerable to insurgencies from within and threats from afar, Robin and his men heed a call to ever greater adventure. This unlikeliest of heroes and his allies set off to protect their country from slipping into bloody civil war and return glory to England once more.”

This seriously just looks like Gladiator all over again…but Gladiator was awesome so I’m in.
Posted by Jonathan Sullivan on March 12th, 2010Wow Gladiator 2,can’t wait.
Posted by 81 on March 12th, 2010Well this trailer is much better than the first.
Posted by Big Hungry on March 12th, 2010Looks like the cop out strategy.
This is a joke. Robin Hood (at least in my childhood) was more like a spy here who stole form the rich and gave from the poor. Not a goddam war hero. Maximus Decimus Meridius is NOT ROBIN HOOD!!
Posted by Billy Boyd Cape on March 12th, 2010yeah, its a little silly of how much of Gladiator vibe this got..
also, wasn’t the movie supposed to be called Nottingham and focus on the sheriff originally or do I have it confused with something else?
Posted by Niklas on March 12th, 2010Now that’s more like it !
Posted by Paul Andrews on March 12th, 2010Maid Marianne = warrior woman? WTF?
120lb. Blanchett firing English long bow, wielding long sword. Wearing armor ha ha LMFAO
Scott has gone off the rails on this one.
Posted by damndirtyape on March 12th, 2010Gladiator? What the hell are you guys talking about? This is totally a redo of Kingdom of Heaven.
Posted by faggot lord on March 12th, 2010Come on, guys, this IS Ridley Scott we’re talking about. There’s certain things that are always going to be carried over into his films in this genre. I feel like he set the bar for this type of flick and he consistently makes good films in the guidelines he created. He’s a hell of a lot more consistent than his brother(not to say that Tony’s bad by a long shot). Both Scott’s pretty much defined/redefined the modern Hollywood action film, political thriller, and epic historical piece.
I think this story’s been done to death but the film still looks interesting.
Nothing will ever beat Disney’s version though!
Posted by Fatbologna on March 12th, 2010So you didn’t like Kingdom of Heaven well let me shove it down your throat again…or Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven and Braveheart all in one?
Posted by xego on March 12th, 2010Wow, impressing. Crowe has really put all of his energy on learning a british accent, just like Costner…
Posted by Vikid on March 12th, 2010Gladiator is one of my favorite movies, and Kingdom of Heaven (especially the director’s cut) was awesome.
To me this looks like Kingdom of Heaven 2. ”You are your fathers son”, same line in KoH, lol. A nobody suddenly leading an army in middle age time…Kingdom of Heaven!
I’m really looking forward to this. Based on the trailer, it probably won’t be as much like the original Robin Hood, but one thing is for sure: Ridley Scott makes epic swords movies!
Posted by Mr.Fansypants on March 13th, 2010Yes this trailer seems to have plenty of elements recognizable from Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven and I am sure if you looked hard enough you could identify basically themes from ALL of Ridley Scott’s previous movies, even, dare I say it Alien anyone remember The Duelists his first ever movie? All directors repeat, re use and re hash their favourite themes. Sir Ridley Scott happens to do it better than most when it comes to this type of action movie. The latest trailer is pretty good but as with not judging books by their covers don’t judge this movie from a short montage of action clips, wait and see the movie before judging it.
Posted by Little Brian on March 15th, 2010So, in this flick, Robin and Marianne are both men who fight like men and act like men! In fact, they compete during the whole flick like two game cocks over a hen! So my question is, where’s the pretty, soft woman to fight for in this film? No where, because Maid Marianne is too masculine and femininity is not politically correct in this film!
To appease the female audience members, Maid Marianne is better than most knights and stronger, faster, smarter and skilled than most fighting men of her time. On Robin Hood is her equal …sometimes!!!
Posted by SureArrow on March 19th, 2010yeh the whole cate blanchett thing fighting alongside the men stinks of political correctness. maybe ppl forgot we STILL don’t let women in the infantry or ground combat jobs in our military.
