Tron Legacy Theatrical Trailer

tronlegacytrailer

A few lucky folks got to see the new Tron Legacy trailer in 3-D last week at some special screening events, and many more saw it attached to Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland this past weekend. Now, finally it has arrived online for all the rest of the world to see. Yeah, it’s only in 2-D, but it’s still pretty freaking amazing.

I can’t believe how jaw-droppingly gorgeous the visuals for this movie are shaping up to be. Joseph Kosinski may be making his directorial debut here, but his years of work in commercials and special effects have clearly served him well. Whether or not you have fond memories of the original Tron, you have to admit that this looks pretty mind-blowing. The music in the trailer is also equally fantastic. I’m not sure about the score that was used in the first half (was that from The Dark Knight?) but I’m assuming the rest is a taste of the music being written by Daft Punk for the film. Either way, I couldn’t be more excited… but will it be all style and no substance? Tron Legacy hits theatres on December 17th; check out the full theatrical trailer after the jump and see what you think.

  1. I must have watched this about 7 or 8 times in a row and freeze-framed it, also. This is some serious science fiction we have right here. Looks fantastic….but oh, what a TEASE! hehe

  2. This goes into ‘The Deception’ pile of not needing to see a single thing more. I’m sold. I might have to watch TRON again though.

  3. Oh shit! DAFT PUNK is doing the fucking music.

The only thing that scares me about this film is the DISNEY logo.

  4. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKK THIS MOVIE!

  6. Looks hawt!!!!!

  7. Yep. I’ll see that. I should probably see the first one sometime.

  8. Also, this was apparently filmed in 3D so that aspect hopefully won’t suck.

  9. I hope tron guy has cameo but only in the real world.

  10. Looks amazing. Though it completely throws away the cheesiness and kitsch of the first movie. Also looks completely different, wire frames and all-black sets with lycra suits replaced by sleeker modern variants.

Also, Daft Punk doing the music is probably the best and most appropriate coupling in movie history.

  11. @Steve – glad you mentioned that.

Believe it or not I just saw “Tron” for the first time last week and I think the most endearing factor was the ‘look’ of the world… the graininess and, as my Netflix envelope put it, the ‘German expressionism’. That’s all sort of gone out the window.

But then again, that’s just splitting hairs. The old look wouldn’t work for something like this and this looks pretty awesome so, no real complaints here.

  12. what is great about the sci fi – an old room and arcade left for 20 years?! really?! this is definitely not as strong as the first trailer because this one reveals how weak the story around the effects is going to be.

I was hoping with the first trailer, with its dark and mysterious shots, I’d get a really cool take on the original idea. this trailer makes me think it will be watered down bullsh*t. kid looks for dad and has to win his freedom in contests, eeeeesh!

  13. Please don’t complain that it doesn’t look like the original, IT’S NOT SUPPOSE TO. This is more modern and amazing, in my opinion. I can’t wait!

  14. It can’t look that great… *watches second half of trailer*

Well fuck my nuts it looks amazing!

However Rus brings up an interesting point about the story. But hey, for a trailer, it does what it’s supposed to and got me interested.

  15. Disney = SHIT

  16. I watched it like 3 times in a row last night, and blood has been pooling in my underwear ever since. It’s gonna be a long wait until December.

This, Inception, Scott Pilgrim, Iron Man 2, Kick-ass, The Expendables…2010 is looking awesome right now.

  17. Huge fan of the original film as a kid, so I’ll be seeing this no matter what. Never expected much of a story, so as long as they don’t make it shit like Transformers, I will be happy.

  18. From the looks of this what do you think about Joseph Kosinski for the remake of Dune?

  19. I need to rewatch Tron before I go see this because I haven’t seen Tron since childhood and don’t rememeber any of the storyline besides “Programmer dude gets sucked into video game machine”

  20. Sean, it’s obviously the same music throughout, it just changes arrangement.

  21. And it looks amazing!
